Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Merger Announcement = WARN Notice?

I’m wondering if the CSA & CUSA merger email is a veiled “WARN Notice” for CSA employees. Canon is so corrupt and would never flat out tell people that they will be laid off directly. They use these long-winded, flowery memos that leave people more confused and on edge, it’s down right evil, Either rip the band-aid off and get rid of everyone now or FREAKIN COMMUNICATE what this actual means for everyone so we can plan mentally and can refocus on our daily tasks. It’s been three weeks since the layoffs, and I don’t fully understand what my new role is. Has CSA management put their original plans on hold now that the merger was announced? The changes communicated to me the day after the layoffs has not really manifested yet for me at least. I’m Just trying to figure out if those plans were made with the merger in mind or did CUSA do the dipsy-do-fliparoo on CSA and now everything is up in the air.

If they are moving away from a products based company does it mean they will not be servicing the equipment anymore? In other words are the service techs going to be let go?

Call it a Mushroom 🍄 farm. Keep people in the dark and feed them the brown stuff with corn and peanuts.

I agree with the Original Poster on the fact that the communication is dismal at best. Honestly, cannot be worse

As I mentioned, I don't have a crystal ball. But what I put out there is indeed facts and publicly available information. Nothing more, nothing less. My intent is to inform people to have an open mind and open eyes as to what "may" happen and be prepared if the situation comes to be. Again, you just don't merge a complete subsidiary into the main company without having planned this out for some time. No matter how Canon management is spinning it.

When a company takes a wholly owned subsidiary and consolidates it into the main company, there is only one main reason and that is for cost savings. It's obvious that there are overlapping organizations and duplicate roles that will be eliminated. I don't have a crystal ball, but history would dictate that the NY facility will continue to be the main site of business, and the Florida facility will be closed. With all the tax incentives that were given to the NY CUSA, it just makes sense that they would keep that facility and stop the lease in Florida.
You have to ask yourself if the company only works 2 days a week in the office and on the message board you see people complaining of having to go into the office for 3 days now, you have to wonder how many customer demonstrations are being done in the Florida demo facility. Plus, how do you support a customer from a support perspective when service would compete with the demonstration organization on two days a week.
That just denotes that either sales and customer engagements are very low or not much work is actually getting done with everyone "working" from home.

COMMUNICATE…They have never been good communicators. Unfortunately, I don’t see that changing anytime in the future. Communication is definitely not their forte.
