Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Another great stunt by 2U leadership

Unbelievable- admissions managers were called into a meeting where we were all demeaned by our VP- telling us we need to “be better” despite the fact they’ve been pi----g on us without the courtesy of even calling it rain. During this meeting we then had to rank our entire team on their “sales tactics” from 1-10. We were then informed that our rankings weren’t low enough and essentially called us trash and our IC’s trash. Here’s a thought - you want to compare IC’s to sales reps? Then PAY them as sales reps- you’ve diminished our teams down to skeleton crews and we have the most garbage leads coming in. Repeat the same cr-p trainings and set unobtainable goals. A sales rep in tech with commission averages well over 120k and the IC’s are lucky if they are making 60. Then you tell them no career pathing, and sorry we aren’t even going to give you the 3% cost of living to help with inflation - but DO BETTER? You guys are absolute trash humans. Managers and directors are over worked and underpaid and the “VP”s are so out of touch with what happens on the front lines it’s actually comical. Now you’re telling us to start placing people on corrective action and performance boosts because you’re over working them. Really really nice - let’s get everyone fired before the next layoff so they don’t even get a severance during the holidays- Bravo. 👏

Seriously this place is going under so quickly it’s a shame that so many are trying so hard to get out but having “2U”’on your resume actually is a red flag for most other organizations in tech. Good job chip, what happened to you? When did you let id--ts like Dobbs destroy the culture of your once great company.

Post ID: @2pqh+1pBaiiBC - do you really believe that the entire rocket ship flying sideways is a result of "I've seen so many people argue over **rather than just take direction.(?!!)
Let's break that theory down....

If said people were constantly arguing and not taking direction then:

  1. Who (as in which managers) hired people of such unmanageable dispositions?
  1. Why were they not written up for insubordination?
  1. What type of direction were these folks pushing back on? Could it be, perhaps, some "manager" whose first job (with 2u being their only other work experience) was as a barista, whose knowledge of how to run a business could fit in a tall coffee cup?!

What you've described, no matter which way you look at it, equates to a basic lack of leadership - plain and simple!

Don't blame the "out of control toddlers," blame the non parenting parent!!!

Maybe it's not too late for you to enroll in a business degree on 2u's dime....cause U don't know Nothin'!

My experience is 2U has people who only want to work how they want to work, when they feel like working, etc.. I’m not a manager but I’ve seen so many people argue over bullsh-t rather than just take direction. The same people then turn around and talk about sh-t going sideways . . .

Uh any reason why my Will McDonald comment was deleted?? This was most definitely him. 2U higherups doing overtime to shield the truth from poor advisors who might stumble upon this forum

@dmm+1pBaiiBC, how much effort have you made in struggling for/forming a union? Providing feedback means little if you have limited individual power.

Yeah, Anon (Post ID: @stl+1pBaiiBC), and that was the name of the game all along for U! To treat AC's with the same inhumane pressure and excessive pressure as a salesperson who is not under the AC laws. All things equal Except the salary as one gets commission and the other does not.
But the sales are the same, they are both required to bring in top dollar?! And do you know who isn't regulated by law insofar as commission of sorts? It's You and other 2u executives--who've diluted our hard earned wages!

The people here attacking workers and telling them to leave are unhinged from reality. Conditioned to look down and blame normal people instead of looking up at the people with actual wealth and power who are driving the company into the ground. Playing Mini-CEO and tossing around catchy business phrases like "easy money" and telling workers they're lazy and to leave. Just imagine blaming workers for being employed at a company where there was no plan except to continue relying on endless low interest rates to sustain a broken business model.

Deep down, of course, these people are deeply unhappy. They think they will be happy if they just get one more promotion, one more raise, and end up a little closer to power. So they play Mini-CEO and practice their craft on an anonymous forum that normal employees are using to make sense of what is actually happening so they can plan for their future. It's unhinged, troubling, and sad behavior. If you're on this forum carrying the water for the executives of this company, you should touch grass and seek help.

There is regulation that makes it to where you cannot pay degree ACs commission. This is very common knowledge.

Post ID: @ixo+1pBaiiBC, perfect way of phrasing a 2u job... "It's like watching a trust fund kid run out of money and whining about how unfair it is to have to get a job."

This place is a joke! It Always has been-but it appears that the joke will be on 2u, once the hordes of lawsuits begin the arrive.
Employee lawsuits would seem to be the least of them all...imagine all of the former students who could bring cases of fraud against 2u --from school to school to school. And imagine the hordes of 2utes who will be pleading for the chance to serve as witnesses!

If Employees = trust fund kids
Then Chip and the C suite = kids playing grown up business people

Again this fixation on people’s UPTO. There is a clear solution to this issue since it seems to keep Chip and others awake grinding their teeth all night: get rid of UPTO and just have a normal policy with limits!

Be part of what solution??? Employees have been giving feedback to 2u leadership TIRELESSLY without effect for years. We actually have tried to keep some glimmer of quality and honesty in this madness and it hasn’t gotten us or the company very far. I don’t know who you are but you are absurdly out of touch. Be candid, open, and honest became a sham principle.

“We were called in”…so you are obviously an employee, and rather than being part of the solution you are coming here. You aren’t looking to try to turn it around, work your a-s off to help save what was built. Just leave! But you won’t. You’ll continue to probably work half-assed, collect your paycheck and take advantage of your unlimited PTO! Your post tells everyone what type of leader you are. The advice of “be better” actually sounds relevant in your case.

I agree with most of your sentiment, but having 2u on your resume is not poison. I was laid off in the last round, and I was a degree AC. I got 2 job offers within the first 3 weeks of being laid off (I had been applying beforehand). Don’t give up hope.

This meeting was on the Bootcamp admissions side. Yeah. Great moral booster. KICK THEM WHILE THEY ARE DOWN. Let’s face it , you want sales people, then invest in professional sales training.

If you're not happy then leave. Its not a government job where you are entitled to lifetime pay, healthcare, and a pension. Its a company losing money struggling to survive. If someone is not producing enough revenue to cover their overhead they should cut them. The company and its employees became so bloated and entitled during the period of free money and work from home they're out of touch w/reality. Its like watching a trust fund kid run out of money and whining about how unfair it is to have to get a job.
