Why are we assuming that any of these stores are profitable?

Believe it or not, companies actually fly in shoppers from Southeast Asia to shop at the Guam Kmart. It's huge. Bigger than a WalMart Supercenter. It used to be part of our Footwear DSM's territory. He would visit it once every 6 months and stay 5 to 7 days. He said it was so big it would take him that long just to do the visit.

Why is Guam a special case but the 4 US Virgin Island stores aren’t? Wal-Mart isn’t even on USVI.

The more profitable Kmarts closed long ago in real estate deals to move in an even more profitable/sustainable operation.

Guam is a special case.
Westwood, NJ is empty.
I doubt most of the others are in the black by this point.

It would be more appropriate to ask which location loses the most money.

That dictionary is wrong. It may be slang (like ain't) but it isn't a real English word. An adverb, by definition, is a description of a verb, so it just cannot have a plural form. I have a master's Degree in English and I would flunk any kid who used "anyways".

@2ond Glad your store got remodeled and revovated. Unfortunately, all renovation remodeling, and repair costs are allocated directly to the store. Those costs are inflated to make corporate expenses less and store expenses excessive. I'll lay you money your store, even though well stocked and busy, is not positive. I used to be part of the remodeling and repair team for Sears and Kmart. Glad you are still open and have a job.

NYC should be much higher in this list. Recently renovated store (2019) and was consistently stocked even at the barest moments at other stores. Always busy because it is the right price point for nearby NYU students. To this day, the store gets near daily shipments

Nobody outside of the corporate offices knows which if any Kmarts are profitable if at all. There are so many expenses involved at each individual location that we have absolutely no knowledge of. Sales, while one indicator, does not determine if a store is profitable.

The link is not an article, it's Webster's Dictionary. The dictionary states it is both an adverb and an informal word.

Nope that article is wrong. Anyway is an adverb, and there is no plural form of an adverb. Anyways is not a valid English word.

It is a word, look it up in the dictionary.

If you are disappointed to hear that anyways is indeed real, perhaps we might supply you with a genuine fake word as consolation (we don’t want you to feel sad). How about spuddlegruncher? It means “the first glimmers of what will undoubtedly turn out to be a massive headache when one realizes that one is having an argument with someone who is basing their entire position on a dim memory of what a former English teacher told them long ago and a strong desire to tell someone else that they are wrong about something.”

It's not a word though. An adverb literally cannot have a plural form. The only correct for would be "anyway".

If you want to avoid debate or write in a formal tone, use the standard anyway. But if you don't mind sounding informal, or if you are aiming for a down-to-earth tone like Clyde Haberman's, it's okay to use anyways. It is a word—a nonstandard, colloquial, informal word—that some people won't like to see.

You are correct. The 31 stores you list are going to form the post transformation core of a retailing behemoth going forward.

@1uvf+18f5l5lw Totally agree.

@1ogs+18f5l5lw "Anyways" is not a word. An adverb CANNOT have a plural form.

They should close the rest and sell them to Target. Target is already going in quite a few abandoned ones anyways.

To copy a cartoon quote, I could open a store selling hair tonic to bald eagles in Nyc, and it would be Profitable. There are more people in the 2 block radius of Nyc Kmart than whole state of Montana. And I'm not knocking MT. I live there. Awesome place, but almost nobody lives here. Thats why we only get 1 congressman for the whole state while NY has 27.

I think Hamilton above NYC makes since, Why would they keep an obscure location in Montana running if not profitable and NYC the lease must be so expensive, Hard to imagine it's bringing in a lot of cash.

The most profitable Kmarts are those that have been torn down and replaced with another big box store.

Kmart in Key West has been a dump for many, many years. The only business they get is by default because there are no other choices. Even Sears recently closed. No Target or Walmart here. The store is old, dirty and run down. Very few employees. Typical Kmart, looks like it did 40 years ago. I'm sure they'll get the ax soon too.

It would be surprising if any KMart in the USA is profitable at this point.

LMFAO, at Hamilton MT being ahead of anyone, but especially being ahead of NYC and several other NY/NJ stores. And what kind of taco are u referring to in # 12? Did you just put all the names into a random scrambler computer generator that spits them out in random order? Come on now. And you based this on "parking lots"? What? Put that pipe down, & go back to bed, bub.
