Its being almost two years and I wonder how our pals from Anadarko feel treated at Oxy. Sad to see some regret staying, while others had an smooth transition and are happy. Would like to hear your thoughts and what can be improved. I guess it all depends which building you are, Denver or Woodlands? BTW, This is no HR BS, just a random LOXY wondering about it.
I personally feel we lost too many good experience folks I was looking forward to interact with, and some of the Anadarko technology is long gone as well.

That was a 3rd party contractor, not an employee.
L-APC and quickly transitioned to working for someone L-OXY. They are amazing, smart, and not a micromanager so I’ll take it. Others, not so lucky. Do I still miss APC? Absolutely :(
Piper Alpha - Occidental UK North Sea - Worse than any BP blowout in GOM
The comment below is quite salty.
All you complainers are weak losers. Oxy is good enough for you to take a check, but you are just too weak to go get another job. At this point you would think you guys would have moved on because you are so much better. APC under Walker was just a dressed up pig waiting to be sold. Most of the good APC people were forced out from 2016 until the sale. There were also a lot of good APC people that took the VSP, but wanted out. Many of you that have stayed are not worth the paycheck you get every two weeks, but there are also the ones that have stayed and tried to make Oxy better. It just gets old listening to how great Anadarko was when they had some pretty bad warts as well. Remember the lawsuits for the Kerr-McGee toxic waste that APC tried so hard to get around, and how about the BP spill they were fined on. The house they blew up in Colorado by not doing the right thing. The se-ual misconduct from the executives in Denver, and then the stellar employee that took his wife and children’s lives and tried to hide them in Anadarko’s properties. That ended up being a class hire. Lots can be dug up on Anadarko in the past, so stop acting like it was the perfect company. The years of Walker were the decline of a great company, but at the time of the sale Anadarko was nothing special anymore.
Oxy is an awful uncaring company who dont give a rats a-s for the LAPC employees - There is a definite plan to pi-s us of so we leave and they dont have to pay anything. VH is as useless a CEO as they come. She doesn't know her a-s from her elbow when it comes to making deals
I'm embarrassed to work for this company. APC had a great name in the community, and was highly respected. On the other hand, Oxy has a tarnished reputation. The local organizations and individuals that have had to deal with Oxy over the last 1-1/2+ years can speak to this company's incompetence. I was proud to work for APC, not so much for this circus. Its not made any better by the fact that the same management that put us all in this situation continues to reign on the throne. WFH and salary has kept me here. APC was not perfect but I'll take it 10 out of 10 times when it comes to who I'd rather be employed with.
Yes. It has always been better without the video. It is called a traditional conference call.
@2oip I had this exact same thought today! It’s so nice to be able to engage in the meetings without worrying about my facial expressions!
As LAPC, there are many great, smart, hard working people at Oxy. Some processes they implement are solid. And I have been given opportunities I would not have gotten at APC. However, there are definitely bad apples in the mix, and I am left shaking my head and rolling my eyes way more so than I did at LAPC. Working from home with my camera off has been a gift. Little scared I am going to get myself in trouble once I go back to the office.
LAPC here. My LOXY boss is pretty reasonable, has some great ideas, and treats us well. I like working for him. He only acts crazy when executive management acts crazy.
The way bosses act is very telling of the type of person they are. If they minimize people that says they are very insecure. Oxy now is full of these bosses. These people are little people who should not be working for the company. It did not used to be like this. Many years ago the company used to hire only the most professional people as bosses. These means well seasoned bosses from other significant oil companies( Chevron, shell, etc.) Lately they have hired a bunch of losers from from Apache? And others like this. Wtf. They ruined this company through stupid hiring like this. Enough said.
At the beginning, I felt being treated like a prisoner of war or a step child. But later I realized that is how a lot of oxy bosses treated their workers. So I feel better now. In meetings, I saw some very condescending boss treating their employees like a pet or a child, scolding or making fun of in front of others. I know that not all oxy bosses are like that and I am willing to believe that most oxy bosses are not like that. However, what I saw is very eye opening.
@outlier
Are you in GOM BU or in another BU? That could explain a lot. The GOM BU may not be representative of the rest of Oxy although the majority of LAPC employees are in the GOM.
After seeing the way Oxy has treated embedded contractors with the 30% paycut (that they are never going to give back) I am just bidding my time until I can leave. Once the market really picks back up there will be ample opportunities to take especially if you have GOM experience. TOTAL, BHP, BP, Exxon all have offshore projects going on and there will be more. I am only glad I stayed because of the down turn in the market and how difficult finding jobs has been for folks that left. At the end of the day, its just a job...Oxy does not care about any of us.
As an L-APC employee, I feel like the Oxy staff has been helpful and overall just great during the acquisition. Both loxy managers I’ve had have valued me and put me in a position to enjoy my work and further my career. So people wise, it’s been good for me at least. (I know that’s not true for many)
Going beyond the OP question, the tech and training on the loxy side has been disappointing. Oxy made calls to save money by not continuing some of the more advanced or better systems lapc used.
Overall, I’m currently happy I stayed instead of going elsewhere in the oil and gas industry.
If you don't like it whether LAPC or LOXY just leave so we can get some fresh talent in. I might leave as well so they can replace me with fresh talent. With the govt giving away everyone's money that works what is the point in working. Free daycare, free insurance, Medicare for all. Being just a few years from retirement it is hard not to stop working and start taking from everyone that is going to continue to work. If you make over a certain amount you are nothing more than a cash cow for the govt in the near future. I heard yesterday one politician say that a 5 trillion dollar infrastructure bill was viable per some economist. We have so many more problems than whether LAPC and LOXY can work together it is not even worth the brain cells to think about.
Oxy is a cr-p company with low grade talent and a lack of qualified leadership
Only departments busy at the moment is HR - Dealing with the exodus of LAPC personnel - Interestingly there is no effort made to do exit interviews as they dont give a sh1t about people leaving as it saves on CoC and VSP payments - Lots of experienced talent drifting out the door each month and no effort to staunch the flow - Well done Oxy, really smart strategy
GOM is still a step child. Won’t feel like Oxy is serious about GOM instead of just tolerating GOM unless they instill some fresh leadership.
As an L-APCer in GOM it has not been a fun year. The GOM mgmt team is all about control and he tries to make every decision himself. I’m torn because the pay is still good but damn this place is no fun anymore.
If you like micromanaging and telling your team what to do, being a manager at Oxy is the place for you.
Apparently August 8, 2019 to March 31, 2020 is a full year. LMFAO
Oxy is a follower in technology and not a leader. They are quite proud of this.
APC treated their people better. OXY has grand plans to implement all sorts of things, but it takes forever. Once OXY sees the complexity of a project, it get's put on the back burner. OXY is the low cost operator and that comes through in many ways.
Great comment and very true. The workforce needs to be in the office to integrate.
There are some people that are so afraid of going back to the office that they keep saying there is no benefit in going back. They can’t be people oriented and still have that opinion. Maybe they view people as just things. Not that there is anything wrong with that if that is the way they think.
Not to mention there was over a full year before covid hit when the company was in the process of trying to integrate so also a moot point.
The comment below is stupid. Even if we were in the office, legacy apc and legacy oxy still worked in different buildings, so your point is moot. Legacy apc worked in the woodlands and legacy oxy at greenway.
It’s been difficult to integrate without being in the office, getting to know people on a personal rather than transactional level. Hard to really judge the culture with WFH. The real test is how we work together in person and how the culture and values become evident in our interactions. COVID definitely prolonged the cultural integration.
Al knew how to throw a party. It’s a gesture, its a break, it’s an opportunity to say hello.
I don’t think any LAPC management has any control or say in what is happening, even though they have a lot of talent and valid opinions that should be respected by LOXY management. Oxy feels very different than APC in that it feels like lower level people have no decision making power or influence at all. It seems like the expectation is to shut up and do what you’re told. APC was better but not perfect at respecting all levels for their good ideas.
Oxy is so old school in so many ways that it shouldn’t be. They should take on the best parts of both companies and not arbitrarily squash parts of both just for the sake of making things different than pre acquisition. It is also exhausting to have lost so much good talent and to have all of their work left over with no progress or relief in sight. So in short, not great. Could be better in the future hopefully but not yet.
