Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Message to All Here

If you are a Cengage employee you would be wise to refrain from commenting on this forum. Refer to your employee handbook regarding public statements about the company.

If you have recently separated from the company it's clearly spelled out in your separation agreement that any derogatory statements made about the company may cause an end to your package.

This is not the time or place to play mean in the sandbox. I would strongly advise that you find somewhere else to post "anonymously".

@3ott+16a3fA15 is 100% correct in everything they say. The sales meetings were drunken orgies filled with unhappily married people who spent 50 weeks a year checking the days off the calendar till they could get their NES booty calls on. The summer meeting was the best as all the female reps clearly would spend all of their free time in summer working out and getting tanned, priming for their hookups.

A buddy of mine was a DM there years ago. He quit but the dimwitted people in HR forgot to turn his gas card off. He used it for years!

God what fun it all was.

@OP+16a3fA15 Allow me to make a suggestion: if you’re currently employed by Cengage, perhaps focus your energies on making that company a better place to work instead of trying to scare and intimidate people on the internet. If you aren’t currently employed by Cengage, and think your message is “helping”, perhaps by adopting a less menacing tone you can persuade people to pay attention to you. In either case, stop trying to bully people into silence. You have zero power, authority, or control here.

English major here... I work part time at current job make twice the money than at Cengage... Was a rep in western region many, many years. My DM was a lowlife hillbilly in disguise, my coworkers up and down the line were inbred sheep, my professors were communist filth, our regional was a corrupt parasite jotard, (well they all are) I spent NES pulling tail, it was like a brothel, I've never met so many naive dummies in all my life and never met so many unhappily married cheaters either. I spent many weeks on the clock in other states including Hawaii on company dime and car etc... Cengage is a wonderful place to work if you game it, but I pity the jotards who are trying to make a career out of this dump, the hoops and mental gymnastics to justify the kool aid swallowing is just stupendous. I love you cengage, you are my everything.

@2nmw+16a3fA15 Interesting study but its a moot point if you're an English major that is still working at Cengage. You hit the career wall the day you started.

Could you post the text? I seem to have lost my copy.

Wow, I thought the .5 percent pay raises, furloughs, layoffs, reorganizations and office closures were bad. Now you’re scaring us with the employee handbook. Will this go in my permanent record, IPS?

MH: Hello, this is the CEO of Cengage."
Glassdoor CEO: "I'm sorry. What is the name of your company". "Sin what?"

Amazing that the CEO of Glassdoor actually took his call. Must have been an extremely slow day.

Its the worst kept secret that "best place to work" awards are largely for sale. After the 12th or 13th reorg Michael commented at a town hall that he was frustrated with the employee Glassdoor reviews and contacted the CEO of Glassdoor to discuss the reasons why. I'm sure Glassdoor has plenty of packages for sale to improve a company's rating and just like magic Cengage's ratings and reviews improved!

For the person who made the remark about English majors earnings value, I suggest you research that a bit more. Interesting 2019 article in NYT entitled ‘In the Salary Race, Engineers Sprint but English Majors Endure’ finds that “The advantage for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) majors fades steadily after their first jobs, and by age 40 the earnings of people who majored in fields like social science or history have caught up.” It’s largely because liberal arts majors have more people skills. Google it.

One of the greatest smoke and mirrors scams of all time that cengage won an award on Glassdoor as a “top place to work.”

I have never posted here but spent many years at Thomson/Cengage before leaving. How incredibly sad it is to see how this company has changed and how much people do not like the company.

@1ldf+16a3fA15 Not at all defending leadership, but a lawsuit over pay discrepancies between the tech side of the house and everyone else would get tossed in about 5 seconds once you examine the current labor market for each group.

Tech: The most brutally competitive labor market that exists. Not nearly enough labor supply to meet demand. Salaries must at least be market competitive to attract talent.

Everyone else: English majors with no business experience whatsoever outside of Cengage/educational publishing. Would be working as Uber drivers if not for their Cengage career. The company can pay these people whatever they want and they will happily stay for more beatings.

I'd be a little surprised if this was someone from the executive team, as they are well aware of the pay discrepancies between men and women at Cengage especially on the tech side of the house. I mean, do they really want to encourage a Class action lawsuit? Not only would Cengage lose, could the company even survive that?

I’ve had heart palpitations for days. Why is everything cengage surrounded in a filthy mist of dog urine, feces and lies? Even here off site the rancor, disappointment, and bitterness I’ve grown to trust and appreciate, to find sick comfort in, is available here too for all of us in case we didn’t get enough at work. I love you so much incompetent DMs, I love you too tard regional mumu wearing buffalos in lipstick and I too love fearless cross dressing leader. Yes dox me in all your glory, expose me, expose my pure flesh to the corruption of your office allow my brightness and goodness cleanse your filthy blinded souls... Go f— yourselves and your garbage publishing shack.

@OP, you are right regarding one thing, everyone should read the contracts they signed. But next time before you try to intimidate people to restrain themselves from posting here or anywhere else, you should read the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), which protects employees’ rights to openly discuss conditions of their employment.

@vdm+16a3fA15. Virtually no one in the general public has any idea who Cengage is. Those who do, hate them.

I've never seen another company that hates its employees as much as Cengage does. That is the honest truth.

Oh, imagine that: Cengage stalks employees concerned about losing their jobs to threaten them. It would be astounding on the cover of the NYT, right? That's good corporate citizenship!

The company is ALLOWING and ENCOURAGING the threats against employees if you are using their property to post this drama.

Sure would s— if a screenshot of this threat made it out in the media...or to Kermit's desk...

So are you implying you speak for Cengage and have, with their knowledge, illegally hacked into The Layoff’s protected data and are now using it to threaten people into silence? You may want to ‘refrain’ from doing that since it puts the company in a very bad light and would do irreparable harm to their public reputation. And if you are falsely creating the impression you are speaking for Cengage when you are not, you likely should reconsider the wisdom of so doing.

Are you serious?
If you are from Cengage, this is concerning behavior.
If you aren't from Cengage, it's even more concerning.
