Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Workload looks good?

The work load for Generator is good this and next year, Steam will continue to be a challenge over all. There is no renewable work thats gonna increase hourly workers. Building 66 SCC operations is where the work load is already pegged for all of 21, 22, 23 and deep into 2024. Hourly headcount will HAVE to increase in order for GE to make good on all the signed contracts for blades made only in Building 66 , Schenectady NY. Until another vendor can prove they can make it, there is NO where else in the world to make blades that have been sold for more than 18 gas turbines built in Greenville, all with spare sets to be made !!!!

I hope the author won’t mind me copying his post into a new thread, but I’m surprised that there are people who are so sure of optimistic projections.

The workload only looks good if you're in the top 175-200 employees by seniority, and an A or B. Everyone else will be on the street by Q4 2021. The only safe place after that will be in bldg 66, the smart ones are already there.

The Ego’s have passed down from the d rates to the t rates. T rates think they will have a long 20-30 year career in Schenectady. The writing is on the wall no matter what the company gives you for workload numbers. Those T’s have not been around long enough to know the game. Most T’s never made more than $14 hr before GE that is why the cola raises and contract raises are next to nothing. But we all know the next wave of layoffs are coming because LC wants the rest of his bonus. No onion leaders nor company will tell you different but they all know it is just a matter of when. Schenectady is a dump and the electric city is all but burnt out.

@2mmi+19Wo4zuq GE is only in NY and what now only seems to be the Schenectady area, (Everything else was either sold off "GE Plastics" or shutdown "Fort Edward") because of an attraction it provided over 100 years ago. NY no longer provides any attraction to any business. To make matters worse, GE is a shining example of a environmental cesspool tragedy in Schenectady! You obviously know the people here well. Anybody with any intelligence at all was smart enough to know there are better places to move to for a better life and already left. Most of the workers here are too afraid to cross a state line for a vacation. The idea of moving to another state terrifies them. There is no talent from the area for GE to pick from. Only the talented who are desperate and can't start anywhere else come here but will leave the first chance they get. The untalented desperate local slugs stay forever and grow in size. This was once a place where you had to beat back the best with a stick because it employed nothing but the best and now Schenectady has to sc-ape the bottom of the barrel and sweep the crumbs in that it can gather. What's pathetic is that so many here don't know that their best doesn't even come close to the worst of the people they replaced. They actually see themselves as being as good, if not better than their predecessors. They are mostly pathetic examples and aren't even smart enough to know it!

I work in building 66, i can only speak about that part of this post. We have tons of work for the next several years, I also think they are going to have no choice but to add headcount, both salary and hourly. If the business is taken serious by those in charge of Schenectady and 301, we can have a very long term relationship in building 66. I for one sure hope that happens.
