Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Why did they stop appreciating employees?

Don't get me wrong - employees working anywhere in retail have never been particularly valued.
But let’s just say that Macy’s used to respect and appreciate employees a lot more than they do now.

My mother used to work here, and her experience is totally different from mine. What happened in the meantime that made their employees so much less important to them?

If things are so tough for Macy’s then Gannett and the top tier management shouldn’t be getting nine million dollar bonuses and spending five billion dollars to make political statements.
Corporate greed is what is destroying Macy’s.

Macy's appreciates it's employees, but it faces serious challenges with regard to Covid-19 and Supply Chain issues. Macy's almost ceased to exist. Macy's pays what it can afford.
Retail is as tough a business as ever. Macy's is a hard place to make a career right now, but it does provide a reasonable option for some workers.

It's actually very simple. You're mother used to work for "Macy's Macy's." You work for "Federated Macy's." Even though you don't see the name Federated anymore (they simply changed the name to Macy's Inc.), the good old, employee appreciative RH Macy Company hasn't existed since the 90s. RIP
