Wishful thinking. Maybe even a prayer. Let’s all pray that fruit will fail and we will automatically win. Amen.
May be Qs bets will payoff before Apple modem shows up. Although do not recall the last time any of the Qs big bet payed off so this will be first time.
Apple made some missteps but they learned and back on track. Just Imagine how Q stock will behave once Apple modem is announced while Q other unproven bets are still unproven.
Apple modem chip is NOT working yet period. They are going to buy QCOM chips till 2027. This is a fact. Reason is their chip cannot perform even close to what Intel had.
Also their Wifi chip which was under test last year is not performing well. So Broadcom is also safe.
Apple has a long way to go. They have enogh money to throw at the problem so they might one day succeed at designing simething that kind of work at a price which is a large multiple of what would have costed them to keep a good relation with QCOM and buy from them.
Kind of d-mb plan if you ask me
Contract extended by 3 months? Enjoy your 3 extra months of employment.
Eventually, Apple will buy Qualcomm if it gets small enough.
Keep in mind, the licensing deal isn’t for new chips. Apple has to warranty its older phones. And with a licensing deal in place, Apple is privy to all new innovations. This is an excellent strategic move from Apple.
@2kme+1qTMBgt0 what's layoff got to do with modem? Google, msft and many more are laying off!
Q is doing mass layoff in US while still having business from fruit. What will happen if fruit get a working modem out. How fu*ed is this business?
Eventually anyone can do anything.
Apple will eventually get its modem. Q folks will of course hope they fail to keep their employment.
Yet Q is the one laying off. So there is that.
@1xti Fruit couldn't produce a decent modem yet because you'd have ended up using it as a room heater, not because they were worried of being sued! Samsung, mediatek were all able to produce good modems.
They extended the licensing deal not the chip supply deal to 2027 so they don't get sued when they launch with their own chipset. The last thing they want is for Qualcomm to file a complaint to the ITC claiming patent infringement like what happened with the watch. Qualcomm previously mentioned they are assuming they will supply only part of the 2026 phones. Most likely, they will use the internal modem in the SE model to gain confidence before ramping up.
Apple is Qualcomm's biggest customer, so folks are very motivated to believe that Apple will fail with their modem. That doesn't make it true. Koolaid is for marketeers - we must think like engineers.
Apple will never have their own modem. They've had all this time to figure it out.
