Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Job issues aside, how do you find life in KSA as compared to a medium to smallish town USA?

@2kka+1bJtmdAR and @2zpw+1bJtmdAR Enjoy it while it lasts...

And same question: why would some model employee(s) like yourself(ves) come to a board like this one then? To flaunt your fancy lifestyle to some losers?
You sound so nouveau riche! Make sure not to get carried away like many a lottery winner.

Did my time, collected the money. Now I'm much more relaxed, less bu-----t. Kids are alright and thank you for asking. While I might have potentially collected some more I have more than enough to get by.

Would I return for a bit more dough? 6 months ago I would have probably said yes. But now the way things are going for me I would say....he-l no! Besides my new job might involve visiting you guys over there in the future 😉 and not many people at the office look forward to visiting lovely Magic Kingdom even with the per diem and travel incentives.

Best wishes

overpriced bacon???? What a buffoon. They pay me three 50 gallon hefty bags for that overpriced bacon. Why else would you come back here to this site if you are happy wherever you are and living in a civilized world. Nice life, wasting it on a message board. I come back here to put bozos like you in check. Don't let the hate eat you alive. Meanwhile, I am waiting for the next payroll and the other truck of cash to be deposited into my retirement accounts. You got that right, two of them. I forgot about the small salary whenever my family and I are ready to go on vacation. Yep, the company pays me to go on vacation. Amazing, ain't it? Mo' money mo' problems. Bye bye lozr.

Nah, you're not making shaat. 120K tops and pi$$ed that you got fired due to your incompetence and now jealous that the rest of us are still bankrolling baby. Enjoy your bacon while my kids are in boarding schools with the sons and daughters of royalties and industrialists. How is that 15K a year in private school working out for ya times two three kids.
Jealous and bitter. No wonder they gave you a free ride to the airport, courtesy of Samara.

@1dxr+1bJtmdAR don't cry for me Argentina LOL!
I actually made the main milestone I was expecting. After 2016 a lot of my pals got laid off for no reason, some right after returning from their repat. Based on that I planned accordingly realizing the possibility. Besides my IRA and 401K are adequate enough.
Now I'm waking up to eating non-overpriced bacon. My kids are happy as he-l. I can have a beer on the porch with some neighbors. Plus I'm working flex hours and still making decent money.

They must have fired your a^% and screwed you out of a retirement milestone. I'm shedding a tear for you. How is the rat race working out for ya in America making 100K and working 8-7. With your cancerous personality, no wonder they handed you the pink sheet. I would have loved to see that look on your face on that day.

The camps (RT, Dhahran and Abqaiq) have all gone down hill with the introduction of a majority non western (irrespective of the passport they have managed to obtain!) contingent.

Lewd behaviour, grown men as well as teenagers staring and gorping at teenage daughters is the norm as it is outside the prison walls in the wider community.

The whole place (inside as well as out) is a giant pit of sh1t. Men can’t behave themselves, TCN’s have the manners and morals of a lump of dogsh1t and the whole fooking place is corrupt.

Best thing that could happen is a nuclear war to wipe the place clean off the map, complete with inhabitants.

RT had a decent community for people with young kids and a nice beach. It’s probably the best camp in the system at this point. They should fire everyone involved in housing and community services as they’re terrible but they won’t because the corruption is the point. I had good friends in RT. Outside of the compound there’s a few few things to do, ithra is ok and you can take the kids to the gravity trampoline park but there’s not a lot. The Airport is decent and precovid it was a good launching point for exploring the world. The country has improved over the past 6 years, it’s the company that has gone downhill.

Compared to any town, city, village, cesspool, etc in the western world, KSA is nothing short of a total and utter sh1thole. End of chat!

Luckily I have enough on my severance plus my pension will start coming in a few years time so I can afford to be in a decent neighborhood. That I am actually thankful for.

As a single person who was there for a while, the camp felt like a retirement village. Even though I was in my 40s I felt like I wasn't quite ready for that pace! On the other hand I will say is it is easy (hence the retirement village vibe). Everything is laid on for you, and within easy reach. But to quote the French singer Jane Birkin 'Who wants an easy life? It's boring'.

In my opinion, camp conditions have deteriorated in the last few years. They are bringing in more and more non-Western expats. Recently, a guy on a motorcycle was ki---d by one of these non-Western drivers. My daughter was going to school with a number of non-Western kids, and there was a general rise in discipline problems from that group. Americans haven't been a majority on the camp for years, and when I left last year I estimate that only 25% of the residents held US passports. Its only a matter of time until the golf course goes, as membership was shrinking when I left. If you are a Westerner and OK with a non-Western living situation, then you'll be fine. Otherwise, this is something to be concerned about. The place is no longer small town USA.

You are fine as long as you are imprisoned with the walls of the western style camp.
Venture outside and have a problem such as a traffic incident or a need to do simple
business at a government office...well then beware and good luck to you. You will be ok, inshallah.
