There have been very vague rumors going around about a possible round of layoffs coming soon. I haven’t heard anything concrete. Regardless of how much I’m hoping to finally leave WD, I’m hoping rumors are not true. I want to keep this job for a while longer, at least until the tech job market slightly improves. It’s a desert out there.

@faio+1uHcmzfz unlikely HDD can absorb the debt without trimming the budget
HDD side is taking all the debt. If any side is going to have layoffs, it is the HDD side
there's going to be budget challenges and one of the SpinCos taking the debt leftover from the SD acquisition
how much is the podcast costing wd?
Flash may be able to offload their debt to HDD, but they still have a spending problem. It's all becoming obvious as we separate the finances. Massive layoff coming for Spinco post separation.
@4rvm+1uHcmzfz Dell has been slashing a lot of positions
Dell laying of 10000. The people we were dealing with got axed so we have to start over.
I'm expecting layoffs after the split in first quarter of '25.
@2jxj+1uHcmzfz. based on history, probably
If there is a merger, wouldn’t that mean more layoffs?
Koixia postponed their IPO, so perhaps we've resurrected merger talks
like any tech company these days, there's a risk of layoffs
"It's a desert out there?" It's less a desert if you're open to leaving this industry and CA.
as the split nears, logical for the rumors to fire
Depends where you are. There are tech jobs outside of California. But then you have to move, and that su-ks. Yes I worked at WD years ago before our site was shut down, best thing ever. We were kept on for 6 months, got paid severance, and the stock price was left at the price when RIFF'd.
