Broadcom Benefits? - Less USA Centric

Just thinking maybe this could be a good thing if it makes VMware less USA centric. Too many decisions made are USA biased.

Europe Explore was more of a success than the USA version.

Maybe this is the time to make VMWare a global company, rather than US company who operates across the globe.

Uh, so maybe this isn’t the right job for you.

Whilst I am located in the UK, majority of my team is based all over the US. And whilst they knew that when they hired me (internally) and said they need guys from EMEA, all calls are scheduled outside my working hours.

I have calls every week on at least 3-4 days a week that are ranging from 1am (to have calls with Japanese colleagues weekly) to 10pm to talk to the US.

I had to move my working hours to EST, keep an eye on emails during UK hours and stopped talking to APJ altogether.

No one from the US even attempts to move meetings. I mean sure, they are 'happy' for me not to join, but a. they don't update me on the process (no one does, colleagues, PMs or managers) but b. expect me to know exactly what happened during the meeting so I can execute accordingly (and no, most aren't even recorded).

"We hire ONLY the BEST!" - Footnote: As long as you work in India or Costa Rica. VMware doesn't give a cr-p about US when it comes to cheaping out on hiring. Guess it's all moot now because Workday is empty and nobody's really hiring.

Grow up. The USA represents the majority of our business $$$. We should be USA focused. When Europe generates more revenue then we can be Europe focused. Not going to happen any time soon.

If your best example is a stupid email, seems like you have real first world problems.

Happy みどりの日

Do you object to mass emails in English as well?

For Fs sake!

Two quick examples of US Centric:

Huge announcements regarding Thanks Giving and Independence day. Two days only the US celebrate. No mention of other nations important dates.

Mandatory meetings scheduled outside of working hours. But inside US working hours.

More power should be given to the regions. Would make more sense, who knows what works better in a region. The region itself or the US.

Where is VMware US centric? We're a massively decentralized mess shambling from shiny thing to next shiny thing. Oh hey squirrel is our motto.

Half our stress is because regional SVPs can make stupid decisions that double costs or fail at implementation of strategy. Our regional comp policy teams seem to live to drive cr---y sales behavior in the field, causing internal sales conflict.

Lack of centralized decision making is ki----g us and it will be a huge benefit of Broadcom.

I can't actually think of a way VMware is US centric or anything centric for that matter.

There are promotion choke points in the US where the next role can only be found in India, Ireland or Costa Rica. There are global RSUs, which I don't think is BCOMs policy.

You are thinking that your old Aston Martin is going to get an overhaul and be better than ever, but it is going to a chop shop.
