Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Failed

What you've just said is one of the most insanely id–tic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Companies in this shape need to streamline the business through asset sales and overhead reductions. Then get on with business.

Yep, VH is showing a lot of similarities to that other "great" woman CEO, Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos.

@2ilq+15ahp3Rt, that's exactly how I feel. I'm tired of people on here whining that VH "is a good person." There are lots of good people in this world. I don't want just a good person as a CEO, I want a great decision maker and leader! And VH has proven without a shred of a doubt that she is neither.

Clearly unhinged and trying to refute the inevitable.

She knows her sorry a– is gonna be voted out tomorrow - who would let a demonstrated incompetent CEO continue on in this situation?

All you Vicki adorers and defenders are equally delusional.

The "she's a good person who cares about people argument" - even if it were remotely true - doesn't matter.

Vicki Hollub is incompetent to run a company the size that OXY once was.

A division/segment/discipline? Perhaps.

But she ran a solid, respectable company into the ground! At breakneck speed, no less.

Four years ago, she was given they keys to a very focused, financially sound company with a strong balance sheet. She was the first female CEO of a "major" or, at the very least, significant player in the oil and gas industry.

All she had to do was execute the playbook and NOT F–K UP.

BUT NO!

Miss Vicki couldn't simply do that. She had to make her mark.

She succumbed to her ego, believing that suddenly she could will things into being.

Pride and arrogance took over and for some reason she felt it necessary to prove her incompetence.

She should have followed Abe Lincoln's advice: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt

If that weren't enough, she took down tens of thousands of employees, ex-employees and retirees with her, destroying retirements that took decades to build.

How anyone even attempt to can defend Vicki is just beyond me.

Spare me the "if this or that" excuses - you know, the Saudi-Russia price war, the COVID-19. XOM and CVX took their licks but they ain't teetering on the abyss.

Just admit it, Vicki is a dolt.

She'll walk away just fine, but she sure screwed over lots of fine, hardworking people.

Singing an "it's not my fault" refrain all the way to the bank.

I hope VH goes to prison. Nothing short of criminal is what she has done.

Enthusiasm, passion and positivity, oh my. That's really all that's needed to right this ship?

She made "made bad decisions in some aspects of this?"

Borrowing $10 billion from Buffet at 8% for 10 years in this day and age?
Raising Oxy's bid to $7 billion over Chevron's bid?
Paying Chevron a $1 billion break up fee?
Not doing the due diligence on the Total sale?

Are those the aspects you mean?

Vicki Hollub has ruined the lives and retirements of many an employee - current, ex, and retired. That's what a good and decent person does?

She'll lead you to that light at the end of the tunnel. Just be advised the it's the oncoming train of total demise.

Bye bye Vicki.

Not true about there not being layoffs in 2015-16. I was one of them, was not a poor performer (got LTI and strong reviews every year) and I know of several others who were laid off during that time. I would like to think positively about Vicki, and having worked with her in the past think she is very troubled/tormented by what is now happening to the company and employees, but I lost a lot of belief/trust in her in 2015 when she publicly told the Houston Chronicle and investor community on earnings calls that they had not laid off anyone because Oxy ran their business so much better than their competitors who were having to lay off people. What a load of absolute poppycock!!!! These people live on their own delusional island of incompetence, lies and arrogance.

@1asj+15ahp3Rt not true. There were employees laid off from Oxy in 2015. You just didn’t hear about it because there weren’t that many and probably none on your team. They let some bad performers go in multiple groups.

I agree that Vicki didn’t put out the type of enthusiasm that is usual with her, that’s is really what worries me the most. She always used to have passion and projected positivity in all the town halls and past presentations. We may say negative things about Vicki, but she is a decent and good human being (hear me out). We all agree she made bad decisions in some aspects of this. We should not forget the last down turn in 2015-2016 when OXY didn’t do lay-offs like others. There maybe no indication of light yet at the end of this tunnel but my hope is she finds a way to lead us to that light.

@vyz+15ahp3Rt I’m not leaving until they ask me and I’ll take my CoC all the way to the bank you clown. Meanwhile I’ll sit at home doing the bare minimum. Kayaking rug muncher and Hawaiian shirt dude can eat my dingle berries.
