Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

40 cent raise...

There's people barely past $10 an hour in my store. They sure as hell work their a– off and that's how they get rewarded. A measly "Meets Expectations" and a 40 cent raise. Macys, You're getting eaten alive by Target and Walmart. This will only cause another mass exodus, and not even by layoff. Morale, by backend and FOH support is even lower now, congratulations!

A mere $.40 raise is Sh–! For those of you who are happy with this considering no raises were given last year are probably getting paid what you are worth. They weren't able to give raises last year but they were able to bonus people in the millions. Shame on you Macys. It's time to kick back and give them what they pay me, which is very little.

Raises are based on your store scorecard and personal evaluation from your leader. Higher weight is on scorecard metrics. People leader only brings score up a few points . We also get the PTG bonus every 3 months based on hours worked as long as Macy’s Co make their sales numbers . However, it’s crazy that a majority of colleague are still at 10 or under even after being with company 5 plus years.

@2ibx My neighbor is a civil service employee. During the Trump administration a number of civil service employees got significant raises.

Then go join the Navy! You can't just decide one day, oh I think I'll go work for the Navy, not without having to sign up, pass a physical and go through boot camp and all that. Your neighbor's job is the exception, I once supervised some government workers who came to work for me, they didn't get raises equal to a dollar or more, why do you think they needed a second job?
How many people in retail do you know that made $22hr 5 years ago, other than managers?
Other than your neighbor, name these other jobs you know, that are not high paying professions, that give more than a dollar raise a year. Please name them, help your fellow workers find these jobs.

Thank you for stopping by and confirming what I stated in regards to raise.

  • 40 is not a lot in the scope of things but most companies never give more than .50 let alone even come close to giving a dollar as a yearly raise.

I hate that your company didn't even give any raise to you this year. If people think Macy's is bad, I wonder what they would think of your company which is a competitor.

Some people forget that the company didn't give out raises last year. The forty cents is really twenty cents if split over both years, of course the company saved a full year of raise and then pushed the start date for new rates back to go into effect until May when it used to be in April.

Housing prices, rent, food costs, and everything else has gone up since the pandemic. Consider also that the company dramatically increased the requirements for the Path to Growth bonus so most hourly colleagues won't be seeing the extra twenty five to fifty cents an hour each quarter like most did last year.

Forty cents was no bargain when you consider the other factors that impact hourly pay. Macy's is a good place to get some experience and then apply at Target, Walmart, or any of the other employers who are paying a more reasonable rate of pay. Until then, Macy's is not the worst place to work if you are going to stay in retail, just one of the cheapest.

@1mdj $1 an hour raise is not that uncommon in non retail jobs and other professions including government jobs. My neighbor works on a naval base as an administrative assistant. She started 5 years ago at $22 an hour and is now making $29 an hour.

Hi there. I work for another retail company/competitor and I barely make over $10....AND I didn’t get a raise this year!! Not a single cent!!

Instead of b–ching about being 40 cents richer...maybe you should be satisfied you even GOT a raise!! You know how many people are losing their jobs or are still unemployed right now?!!?

That’s what I thought. Be happy you HAVE a job and got a raise!!

Times are hard for brick and mortar retail.
You see what it is. You know what it is. If you don't like it, seek out employment where "What it is" more closely aligns to "what you want" and life will be better

$10 an hour?!? Wake up. This is the 21st century. ANYONE with a pulse and an IQ above 85 can get at least $15 an hour anywhere in the US. A 40 cent increase is absolutely hilarious. The company has you groveling for pennies when you really should be demanding a $5-8 increase.

As someone else stated, .40 is better than before. Those who have been at Macy's for a long time, or even just a few years, can confirm that .40 is more than average. A normal raise consists of anywhere from .10 to .25, sorry it's a fact.
For those of you complaining about .40 raise, can you name another retailer, prior to the last year or two (just to be fair because I know walmart, Target and Amazon have increased pay recently) that gave more in regards to yearly raise. I have worked in retail for several years, and I have also worked in other professions. Besides high paying professions, I have never known any company that gives even a dollar raise every year, that includes government jobs. For now, I'll take the .40 over nothing. Would I like to make more, of course, but that's up to each of us individuals to decide what we will accept. No one is keeping anyone from leaving nor making anyone stay. I'm just stating facts, I'm leaving the emotions out of it.

When did they start saying 40 cent raise? To make it sound good, they usually say, "You are getting $15 raise per week. That is .40 cents/hour multiplied by 37.5 hours/week.

There are 56 stores in the company doing a pilot called Innovative Selling. Merchandisers and pricing colleagues will also be working selling shifts, and selling colleagues will be placing and doing markdowns. Starts next month. Hours will be structured to have more people on the floor during open hours when customers are there. Won't be coming in at 6am, come in one hour before opening. Signing and visual move to back of house with receiving. Fulfillment moves to back of house too. If it works how they think it will, the rest of the company will be rolled out by fall.

It’s still not enough but honestly 40 cents is better than what it was a couple years ago. Then it was 15 cents. What is support changing to? We haven’t heard anything

Now we are going to change our support colleagues hours yet again. The company will be starting from scratch at a lot of locations by the start of the fall season.
