Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Let Go

Just wondering what the process is when they let someone go. Does your manager call you into his office. How about if he works in a different location. Does a HR rep come and get you and then walk you thru all the BS forms. Do you get any warning?

Very unfortunate if it is real. Shocking too.

Not sure how the market will be, if all the laid off employee starts scavenging at whatever jobs prevail over.

Every employee would have got lot of commitments and all of them are at stake now.

Is it really going to happen on 23rd March? Not sure why the managers are scared, they being the decision makers of whom to be sacked.!!

The organization must have thought about the after effect of such a layoff even though it is massive.

Very SHOCKING to hear this news.!!!

list is ready for Bangalore + Chennai

Managers are scared to hand out the list as hardly anyone would be left to do any work

They have decided to hand out the letters on Friday 23-Mar-2018.

50% of the list will be retained for April.

The list is huge, the managers are scared.

When I was there as a manager, I tried very hard to get those under threat of reduction into other advertised roles that were being advertised. But what I found was that the Manager's of those so-called 'vacancies' were 'Not taking on anyone right now until the current round of reductions is over' er?? is it a vacancy or is it not? Is that moral, legal?

I found DXC quite blatant about advertising vacancies in your function when getting rid of people and being very careful not to take people on who were under threat, as if they had some kind of virus or something. They have no scruples any more about letting you see that either.

Most people with sense don't bother looking around and take the option to go early if 'working your notice' is offered. The only reason you'd want to work notice is if you feel you are better placed to 'Kick HR' to sort all your payments out, from the inside, than being on the outside of the wall.

In Australia the usual practice is:

1) a manager will contact the soon to be WFR'd employee seeking confirmation that the person will be at work on the following Monday or Tuesday;

2) the manager books a short meeting with the employee on that day and is very vague on the topic for discussion;

3) the meeting occurs and the employee is informed that they are about to get the chop (aka WFR). If they have not found another role in the next 4 to 5 weeks (aka internal transfer madness) then the WFR will proceed along with support services kicking in.

The manager follows a carefully scripted process to avoid the company being sued for unfair dismissal.

It's madness for employees to contemplate looking for internal roles just to extend employment pain with DXC but if an employee were successful in an internal transfer then a manager needs to find a new victim to be WFR'd and Mikey forgoes the WFR bonus for internal transfers.

DXC tend to settle out of court to avoid publicity and possible erosion of their brand. They rely on the fact that most folks won't challenge such unethical and often illegal practices.

I have spoken to a couple of other Spanish ex- colleagues and it sounds like this is normal prodecure for DXC over here. I just need to go to mediation with my lawyer to get what I'm entitled to.

Unless the company welcome unfair dismissal charges against them; then under Spanish law they are required to provide you written correspondence of the facts (of the alleged infringement) prompting the dismissal and effective date of dismissal.

#If no proven facts, then it would be considered 'unfair' and likely 'NULL' if the dismissal is motivated by any of the discriminatory causes prohibited by the Constitution or Law, or if any of your fundamental rights or public liberties are breached. The consequence of a null dismissal is your immediate reinstatement, with payment of salary arrears.

My manager contacted local HR to tell them I was being WFRed due to budget cuts. The first I heard of it was when a letter arrived at my home from local HR telling me I was being sacked with immediate effect on disciplinary grounds. I have been told that if I want a severance package then I will need to get a solicitor and negotiate for it!

(America) Where I work, you are met at the door by your manager and supervisor (or two managers) where you are taken to a room and told you are being laid off. All the paperwork is completed and you hand in your badge. You are then escorted out the door. Your personal property will be boxed up and mailed to you (which could take anywhere from two days to four weeks!). There is absolutely no warning.

HR effectively doesn't exist. The function of HR is distributed to managers. There are some countries with hundreds of employees and not a single person employed in HR.

Different countries have different rules. In a number of cases in US, 1 day notice, generally over the phone unless your manager is at same location as you. What is this HR you speak of? (/s)
