Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

Screw this company

So the company expects those being laid off “will be offered the opportunity to work for one of the contractors” taking over the project. It's not a guarantee, but for them it makes it all better. Leave it to Raytheon to try to negate layoffs by making such a statement. 144 employees and their families will be impacted. That’s all that matters.

Hi @1onj+18kUkKPB – I'm a journalist based in Atlanta and cover military affairs and the defense industry in the South. I'm working on a story about a Raytheon/ Pratt & Whitney expansion in North Carolina and am looking to speak to former workers about job security at the company. Please feel free to email me at taylor.k.barnes@gmail.com if you'd like to speak (anonymously if you need) or please feel free to pass my email along to other workers. best, Taylor

What do you mean people made sure they got laid off?

Also who is the guy making crybaby comments and other things when people are posting about layoffs? Seems this guy is offended. But this is a layoff page.

Raytheon is a great company that got hit hard by Covid. The next four years will be hard as well for other reason. But people in Massachusetts made sure they would get laid off and put Raytheon in a hard spot for at least the next four years

"No one is going to find that perfect job where they feel perfectly comfortable." Geezz brother. That's a sad way to live.

Yikes. Someone took things to a personal level. Companies lay people off all the time. Relax.

With all due respect @2haj+18kUkKPB. This smells like a cut and paste from the response binder of Raytheon HR.
This is not at all about being uncomfortable, this is about how Raytheon can go about laying people off. No one is going to find that perfect job where they feel perfectly comfortable. If you believe that then you believe that unicorns ride down on rainbows to deliver your favorite flavored snow cones.
This about the fact there is no longer any long-term job stability, and that if a company wants to get rid of you they can and will.
Please don't change the subject, or start another thread.

Really great post below. People believe furloughs are implemented to save the company in the short term and that’s completely wrong. It’s very long term oriented. Furlough throughout the year, avoid huge layoffs, upset employees, they leave, company doesn’t have to pay unemployment or package. In leadership they are calling it natural attrition.

Now obviously if the attrition is low, like in areas where jobs opportunities are limited, layoffs are more likely.

As I mentioned in another post, if anyone feels uncomfortable, please look for other employment. I don’t mean this in a negative manner at all. And yes I know job availability is tough in some areas. But I fully believe nobody should feel uncomfortable at work.

I understand your frustration. I worked for Raytheon for over 20 years and here are some of the shifty things I had seen (I worked at more than one business unit):

Larger layoffs around Holidays so employees wouldn't notice as much.

Periodic layoffs of under 50 people to avoid the assistance provided for larger layoffs.

Furloughs for long periods forcing people to quit (workaround for unemployment packages).

Moved to programs would be shutting down in less than a year, leaving that person with no network to work in for continued work.

Option to move to a contract working the same program, with their contract canceled soon after.

Performance appraisals based solely on personality, and how they get along with one person that doesn't like you. Done repeatedly to be put on a PIP or future RIF.

The list goes on and pertains to only the engineering organization for people at lower levels. Its very sad that people are no longer treated like human beings anymore. I've never been a fan of unions, but frankly with this kind of treatment I still see a need (and possible expansion) for them. Regardless, if they want you gone, you will be gone.
