Thread regarding Accenture layoffs

I truly, absolutely hate working here

This company is nothing but a source of stress for me lately. And I'm not even talking about constant layoffs! It's the overall work atmosphere, it's the toxic culture, the horrible, incompetent managers who like to take all the credit for what works but no responsibility for what doesn't. I'm just so sick and tired of this place! Maybe I'll get lucky and find my name on the next layoff list...

I was just laid off and I realized, as a combat veteran I rather be in combat all over again than to ever go back there. When interviewing for a potential project you have to be ready for gotcha questions. Women’s empowerment has turn to men’s exclusion. They discount your accomplishments and try to make you feel like cr-p I hate I lost this job but I’m glad it’s over

I did get laid off after 10 years there. Bad management you have to support their crazy anti American values. I got laid off to Make room for a person of color in management. It started in early 2020. I was targeted to be removed even though I was putting in 12 hour days 6 days a week.
Getting laid off though turned out to be a blessing. I no longer have health issues and I am much happier. I should have left years ago.

Yeah I am also hating Accenture more and more. It's total bullsh-t. Repetitive useless work everyday, trying to debug something that's totally sporadic due to terrible code practices and architecture. Miserable pay and benefits, terrible team lead who is often away and don't reply. Even trainings in this bullsh-t company you have to pay by your own expense. You just be fu----g treated as a number, your work is not valued. Terrible team environment, they only fu----g care about their client, client, and client, almost want to lick the client's shoes! As an individual working at Accenture, you're nothing but a number, miserable or no bonus, miserable pay, and nothing. Very stressful team environment and I start to hate it every day. Career would probably be ki-led or blocked if keep staying. Stressful everyday, and I cannot even enjoy my personal life with a calm mood anymore. Time has come to move forward.

Start that job hunt and leave before you are let go (unless the unemployment or some other aspect of being let go is really attractive to you). Accenture acquired my awesome company and destroyed it: culturally, operationally, managerially, ethically. An exodus of top talent once we realized what was going on (we had a highly specialized, very marketable skill set) finished it off. Onward and upward – and from Accenture, there is nowhere to go but up. Soulless, spineless, skillless clowns exploiting the young and naive.

Just finding out about what this company offers as benefits, its not a place where I plan to work.

If you're so miserable, why not leave? You do have that choice - no one is forcing you to continue to be miserable! And I'm really talking to those above who said they've been miserable for years - I fully understand that the job market right now is not the best.

I was with Accenture for just over 13 years. Yes, some times were pretty stressful, but that's been the case with every employer I've ever worked for. I was part of the most recent round of layoffs, but I orchestrated my departure. I was ready to retire but was able to secure a layoff and package instead.

If you don't want to be part of the "up or out" side of Accenture, understand that it is primarily part of the Management Consulting arm. Technology and Operations typically have no problem with you staying at level as long as you are delivering value. I was hired in as an experienced manager and remained at that level for 9 years without pressure to move up. I was promoted in the first year that I let it be known that I was ready and started preparing myself for the added responsibilities at a higher level.

@3fqt, totally agree. It's the worst place for experienced hire, waste of time and energy. They are not welcomed at ACN.

@2gyq. Spot on.

Advice to experienced hires - don’t join. Your skills will be under-recognized and you’ll be surrounded by Lord of the Flies.

To the youngsters - you aren’t as hot-shot as you think. At least feign humility and see through the scam of working 80 hours a week for 40 hour pay.

  1. s. Fresh hires posting online about their start dates - in the midst of the layoffs - makes me ill.

Imagine you got Master's degree in one of the most inexpensive delivery centers, you got laid-off and yet the audacity of promotions ( yes that's plural to yo mate)still happened? How and why?Coz they replaced those on higher CLs that were laid off.

This text just made my freaking day! Thank you thank you thank you. I am sorry you are experiencing this. I recently got laid off after more than 10 years here and can say I have been miserable for at least the last 5. It’s a toxic culture.

@1oer Having spent 10 years at accenture and about 15 in three other Fortune 500 companies here is my two cents:

  1. ACN is not like other companies
  2. Level of stress is much higher, it's relentless and never ending
  3. Some elements of #2 are by design, some are caused by the nature of the work (constant change, client facing, expensive service)
  4. If you are a newbie the deck is tacked against you - you will be exploited and, if needed, quickly discarded - in short - 'you need to be very useful to us mentality'
  5. ACN is up or out, if you plan to stay your way has to be 'up' and if that requires backstabbing so be it. And yes, from time to time it will requires tons of selfpromotion, credit hogging, peer tripping and backstabbing
  6. All consulting companies are similar, ACN is just the most extreme

You just described the culture of 98% of American corporations. Some companies are just better at hiding their toxic culture to the public.

Sorry to hear that!. I experience same thing, toxic culture, incompetent's MD, SM and managers being at ACN forever with no other work experience. They take credits, bulling others, and adding no value. There are few really smart, professionals and knowledgeable folks which I guess they will be removed in layoff process or they will find better jobs. It's a tough time for job hunting but still there are good positions out there.
