There’s been Leaderships offsite and the primary topic was layoffs in Q4. Update your resume folks.

@2knx+1uWqRF3E My bad-- I misread what you wrote. Yes, many Mainframe people have aged out and I doubt many places even teach COBOL or MF skills.

"You don’t have a clue do you? A. Inch if major systems run on the mainframe. Those won’t go away for decades bc it’ll cost way too much to replace them."

I may not have a clue, But I do have reading comprehension.

I was not referring to mainframes going away, but to mainframer's aging out by retiring or getting 'whacked'. Then what? I am unaware of younger people learning COBOL or CICS.

I know of many mainframers that have checked out or died.

But, what do I know.................

Cheers!

lol. You don’t have a clue do you? A. Inch if major systems run on the mainframe. Those won’t go away for decades bc it’ll cost way too much to replace them. Good luck replacing CIS, or the deposits system, or worse or ach or any number of lending systems. They’ve tried replacing a few and didn’t get anywhere.

I’ve been hearing the mainframe will go away for well over 20 years in more than one company.

People talking about upskilling to hop on the AI bandwagon are pretty funny. Breaking news people, Shart doesn't want any internal tech people. India and contractors is the future of that group. So sure, get good education, training, and certs, you'll need them after you're downsized by WF.

"OPEX vs CAPEX is a really strong argument in favor of cloud"

/giggle

Yeah, I read that in the AZ900 training as well.

Also the cloud is a pre-requisite to AI. Keeping a secure model, learning about banking processes in an AI assisted world, being more efficient marks this evolution. One that JPM has started with their ILM suite in June 2024.
"Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan, has been a vocal supporter of artificial intelligence. He argues that AI is a disruptive technology that will revolutionize every profession within the bank, potentially eliminating certain positions while generating new ones."

So you folks still at Wells.... is your tech leaving you behind?

I certainly hope so..I have many peers in technology who are 60 or over looking for the golden ticket. on the other hand, I hope wells doesn't have a use for mainframes anymore.

Cheers!
