Thread regarding Frontier Communications Corp. layoffs

CWA DISTRICT 9 reach TA

Sisters, Brothers, and Siblings, I am pleased to announce that your duly elected bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement (TA) with Frontier Communications after months of hard work, negotiation, and many late nights. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and strength of our
bargaining team. I am also proud to inform you that our National Executive Board voted unanimously in favor of this tentative agreement. This is a significant milestone, and it reflects our commitment to
improving our working conditions and benefits.

This is a comment made by someone who clearly doesn’t understand the basics of business strategy. Verizon is failing against its competition. Why, you might ask. It should be obvious. They are the only network that doesn’t have its own wireline. Which they foolishly sold off in 2014. They’ve become bloated with management and systems akin to a dysfunctional government. That raises prices on customers in place of strategic planning and implementation. The number one thing. They no longer own anything yet still throw money around like ATT or Spectrum who actually have multiple revenue streams and own physical plant. I could go on and on why your comment is misguided and lacks understanding of pretty much anything. However, I suspect it wouldn’t matter.

There’s a clear contradiction in selecting a few individuals to be part of the bargaining team who support a Republican party that has undermined labor rights and worked to eliminate unions, and expecting them to represent union members effectively at the bargaining table. Unsurprisingly, the tentative agreement they’ve produced fails to keep pace with inflation. Despite this, union leadership is celebrating the deal and insisting it’s the best agreement ever. But members deserve more than empty praise, they deserve a contract that reflects their true value.
