The stats I pulled about historical US demographics were for non-Hispanic white Americans, if you’re referring to my post. Tried my best not to overstate the %.

Listen, I hate this company, I think most supervisors are useless puppets that repeat whatever their supervisors want to hear so they can move up. The culture is toxic and breeds toxicity in return.
But some of the comments here - implying that they got PIP'ed because they are white - are ridiculous. You are an out of touch racist, the same person that says all the Indians we work with are stupid.
Get a grip on reality. 11 out 12 board members are white, and it cascades down. Look around you! In your group you might have 1 to 2 minority; but you will find less and less as you move up the ladder.
I was told that I am not a "Team Player" and spent too much time "Playing With Myself."
WTF, who can honestly in clear conscience say that they do not occasionally enjoy playing with themself. Besides, if we all played together (you know what I mean), it would be frowned upon by HR and lead to mass firing.
Let's face it. we all know working here is very stressful and we need an outlet to relieve the stress.
I was PIP’d because my previous group sacrificed me to attain a quota with zero consideration for my new group’s need.
My PEPE is bigger than my bosses and I have really big ba--s to match it, so I don't do any A$$ Ki$$ing like others.
Because so many people in my rank group that I outperformed were either designated to move up to executive or had a senior manager that stood up for them in the ranking meeting.
I think there’s a misalignment in how some of the demographics are represented. You do realize that Hispanic/Latino from a race perspective are often “white” and yet still considered underrepresented minorities.
Most people working at EM are Engineers.
Engineering classes are historically well over 90% white males.
EM actually uses racist and s-xist recruiting targets to hire out of that 10% of engineers that are non white males.
If EM had not discriminated, there would be more white males at work due to the pool we recruit from.
@4sob
Look again at the “investing in people packet” you pulled the 70% white person metric from.
Exxon has historically hired long term employees that stay their entire career. If you want to make changes to the senior levels, you need to go back in time 20-30 years and hire at the current demographic levels of the US today in order to potentially reflect present day % by race. In 1990, the US was 80% white, 75% white in 2000, and 72% white in 2010, of course Exxon’s workforce is going to be upwards 70% white in the US considering the age of many of the employees.
Looking at present day hiring, 43% minorities in the US in 2022 and 47% in 2021, which exceeds the % of population that makes up minorities in the US.
They found my Greta T. picture collection in my desk while switching to the hot-desk plan.
I thinks she's cute. What's wrong with that?
I was told my criticism of my current Division Manager's chili at a luncheon 6 years ago was not well recieved.
But it wasn't chili. It was the bean farts from Kramer's horse in that Seinfeld episode. And that's what I said.
So - watch what you say in this company.
All I can tell you.
Retirement eligible. Taking the PiL.
I had no idea that the EM form of disguised layoffs was so based on race, gender, ethnicity and all that.
I thought it was all about age and salary.
Dang, though, it is tejas after all.
bluebonnets around a white star.
blue eyes crying in the rain.
Not hard to figure all this out.
It's money.
That sick pu-e green amurikan dollar bill.
Dollars in their eyes.
Pennies on yours.
That's the Pip, cher.
I can tell you I am racist without telling you I am racist by
- saying white middle aged pot bellied men have it worse because of diversity at Exxonmobil.
- by continuously refusing to work with btc or any other organisations based in india
- by refusing to acknowledge that we are a mediocre organisation losing it way as the white middle aged pot bellied men are bullies who refuse to allow any creativity or improvement
@4ieh Most likely.
@4xmi I’m not the one whining about DEI.
It is in no way racist to point out that most people working at EM are white and/or male. Both facts undercut your statement that white males are being discriminated against as a matter of corporate policy.
White men are not an oppressed minority at EM: they make up a supermajority in every sector of the business and hold nearly all of the decision making power. That’s not what discrimination looks like in practice.
@4sob. Tell me your racist by not telling me your a racist
All these "me too's" are written by one person??
It happened to me too off the record of course. I knew I couldn’t prove it because it was her word against mine so I quit. No wonder there’s so much animosity with race. Xom is causing it now that I know others were told something similar.
@4klf Ya…BS.
You’re basically saying that someone at Exxon admitted to knowingly and systemically violating federal law. That’s a sweeping accusation. Nobody in their right mind would have said this to you. It also isn’t borne out by the numbers; The EM workforce is over 70% white (higher than the general population).
So your claim reduces to someone stating that discriminating against white men is a matter of corporate policy, while the same group is simultaneously over-represented in nearly every part of the businesses relative to their distribution in the general population. Try explaining that to a judge.
@3pie. You are dead wrong. I was told something very similar off the record. That’s why I retired. I couldn’t stomach my sls or the company any longer.
@1ull Out of all the things that never happened, this never happened the most.
The quickest way to PIP is to be a 40% RG person and get promoted. 30% drop in ranking is common, now you are bottom 10%...after the first year in new rank group the prior year bottom 5% are gone (retired or PIP), so in year 2, you will be bottom 5% and in the PIP pool. Even if you do not get into PIP, your future pay raises will be ZERO. Lee Raymond ( a chemical engineer) used to call the ranking system a distillation column, good, refined, and valuable stuff goes out the top and the bottoms (heavy, gooey and low value) go out the bottom, exactly as designed.
@2hth+1npljPTd Hang on, we are one big "family"
There’s something very very sick about the culture of this company. The type of people that was promoted and rewarded speaks volumes about how little this company cares for its employees. It is no wonder the best a brightest wants nothing to do with this place.
It won’t do any good. ExxonMobil has to test lawyers money can buy. One person will get hammered going up against them
@1ull+1npljPTd do people really have no knowledge of the laws that have addressed this for decades but are being violated and ignored? How did people get to this point of lack of knowledge? Just educate yourself and stand up for your legal rights! It is harassment! Creates a hostile work environment! Reverse discrimination! The laws do not only apply one way, they are meant to be administered EQUALLY FOR ALL! STAND UP FOR YOURSELF! OTHERS ARE YOU JUST DON'T HEAR ABOUT IT! DEI is a violation and attack on all that don't fit the narrative! Call it out!
My rank is NSI because I have cancer. Last year was very difficult fot me and I could not do the same amount of work as prior years.
After 32 years at this company this is how you will be treated
RUN!!! this all I can say
I had to take my wife to cancer treatments and she said I missed work to do that.
The answer is "YES". My guess is that your sponsor also dropped you.
CL-28/29 and CL-30+ are the most competitive employee groups especially as we continue to reduce OPEX.
My CL bumped up one notch which put me in the very highly competitive group. And guess who made it to the PIP list, mmeee. Did the powers at be intentionally promote me so they would have someone to PIP on next cycle? uughhh!
“You left an email in the shared mailbox longer than one day before responding”.
Translate- you are the only one who has hit age 55, we do t care about loyalty in this place anymore.
Must be something with the Victoria’s
Seem's many of you had the same Supervisor in Clinton. Victoria is the worse. That's XOM leadership for you.
I was told “officially” I am in a very competitive rank group. Then “unofficially and off the record” it was because I am a white male over 40 and ExxonMobil is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the distribution of employees should reflect the area that the plants operate in. When I asked why shouldn’t it reflect the most qualified I didn’t get an answer. Is the Supreme Court ruling going to apply to companies in addition to universities or does it need to be challenged?
A friend of mine was pipd. He was never really told why. It took months of him insisting on a plan, they didn’t even have a plan for him. Within 2 cycles he bacame a supervisor . That’s strange right?
My manager told me that I dropped in the rankings because I was twenty steps ahead of most employees in our global business unit, but I did not have the patience to wait for everyone else to catch up.
Translation: You dropped in the rankings because you were twenty steps ahead of everyone else. Management recommends that you take twenty steps backwards and start rowing in the boat with everyone else if you want to maintain your ranking.
My manager said that I upset a few people with my pronouns
@wsx+1npljPTd Just despicable! My heart is broken for those who receive this treatment this year and past. I suspect it will be significant this year and the one's unscathed will be more than eager to exhale and move on to the ongoing beating. Please don't! Show grace & instead of kicking or ignoring those that are down, support and defend them! Don't take it! Whatever that means! Just let them know that XOM DOES NOT DECIDE THEIR OR YOUR SELF WORTH. Let XOM know it isn't ok with anyone, not even those that are not a NI or NSI.
Someone had to go in that seat, we thought you were a low flight risk.
Over 50.
Woman.
Primary breadwinner.
High-school aged kids.
Translation: you’ll tolerate the mental beat down (abuse) that you “need significant improvement” when in truth, we know you generate significantly more value than anyone else on the team and have been awarded several accolades over your 25+ year career with XOM. Most demoralizing thing that has ever happened to me.
If you receive an NSI, get out. Your mental health is worth so much more.
I resigned and had a new job within two months. Cream rises.
