Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

It easy to blame this just on the top leadership

Globalfoundries had the potential to be a 2nd tier semiconductor company. For a moment it looked like it was going to be 3rd tier company, but it drove itself to be securely into a 4th tier slot by its own bad choices and ineptitude.

It easy to blame this on the top leadership, but really it’s all of the leadership and management. Said leadership and management act as if they are peers with their counterparts at Intel, Samsung or even ibm. But the reality is these places have zero respect for them and we are the laughing stock of the semiconductor industry. Ever notice our mgrs are never mgrs in other places if they leave gf?? Globalfoundries is the perfect dumping spot for these other companies trash. The caliber of manager, the leadership and work culture and environment they have created are all 4th tier trash and that is why we are 4th tier.

A culture is set at the top, TC only wants yes men and women. So when you create an environment like this the people below don't feel empowered and don't try to change things, they just march forward as directed. So, I will respectfully disagree with you, if you create a culture of empowerment and empower folks below, I would agree with you but when you don't want any input or don't empower people below to make change then you get the current environment where people become yes men and women just trying to keep their jobs.

You have a point. But it’s not TC and other leadership in our daily meetings or department meetings. It just out 1St -3rd level managers. They are the ones we see and interact with day in and day out. It is more their fault than the higher up leadership that the Globalfoundries work environment is so toxic. It’s really them who set the standards and policy. All of which they created and is very self serving. The higher up leadership does not know or care. It’s the patients running the asylum and they have stacked or rigged the system in their favor and best interest. So OP is right the ground level leadership and management deserve a lot more of the blame then they are given.

Leadership starts at the top and the culture is formed at the top. When you have a CEO who is arrogant and only cares about putting as many women around him as possible, then the culture rolls downhill from there and this is why you see so many VPs/SVPs getting brought up on se-ual harassment charges. The culture is established at the top, the ones under are typically just yes men and women.

@ava I'm assuming to give it more views. Not everybody reads all the comments and some posts deserve to be viewed by more people. That's my guess.
