Can confirm this one. SDE Support just lost a few people today in the NASA region. EMEA lost some earlier this week as well.
The team was already on fire with case loads, so it doesn't seem so sensible. Everyone was expecting elevated case loads, but not layoffs.
Some of us speculate that positions are being filled via APAC. They already help out during EMEA hours, so it isn't a stretch to do so for other timezones.

This rumor appears to be true. On going bloodbath in SDE. Appears mostly related to SA and support roles.
I'm not sure how other people were chosen, but I think in my case, telling my manager that "I hate this fu--ing company, and I hope you lay me off so I can get a big payday and find a job somewhere else that doesn't slowly chip away at my soul leaving me a souless husk like all of the Broadcom employees I've met."

I'm pretty sure it is first job function (if they are targeting a reduction of specific roles) and second is the stack ranking managers do. That is the only data that makes any sense.
What is the method by which one is selected for layoff? In a scenario where 30% are let go and the direct manager has no say, how are the people being chosen?

More layoffs will continue until Oct 23rd this year. Then next cycle will be more aggressive in Mid- Jan to early-Feb (before Chinese New Year). Nothing to do with VCF 9. Target is to bring current stock price to $200 in early 2025.
