Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Feel like this is my week…

Been with the company 20+ years. Keep my head down, my mouth shut, just keep making my widgets (quality audits) and have successfully survived so far. Watched so many positions be RIFed only to be replaced overseas months later as “actually needed positions” (surprised pikachoo face!) but made it through. This is the first time I’ve actually felt so certain my job is on the line I’ve decided not to do any work this week because I know what’s coming. I’m already planning turning in my equipment, redoing the furniture, getting rid of old stuff I won’t need anymore…. I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t happen to most of my US based team this go-around. What a way to end a career. And at my age it will be hard to find another position. Thank God for Obamacare or a lot of us would be SOOL!
May the odds be ever in your favor!

Just wondering what happened to OP? Did you get your severance? Are you now stuck again until the next round?

@2fla, thanks so much for this post, it means a lot (even though we may not see eye to eye on politics, but this is not the time nor the place to raise that question.)

For those that have been here many years - of course we are burned out! We’ve been undergoing imminent threat of layoffs, the stress of the housing crisis, the trump presidency, the pandemic, the breach, and now the threat of another Trump presidency and the loss of ACA without any kind of break. I know that’s just life, but it doesn’t have to be this toxic. At this point hoping for severance is self care! Come back and be rude after you’ve put in the time….

I have spent much of my time teaching my off-shore coworkers. It is not going well. Getting them up to speed is taking 10-20x longer, and their responsiveness is days late. I may have another year to go at this rate.

@1onl+1uZpazIJ That’s very thoughtful of you. I’m burned out past the point of return and the leadership in my division is incredibly toxic. I have an idea for starting my own business (not related to this industry), but I would want the severance as a cushion before striking out on my own.

When I read, I just want severance to get out I am wondering if you are really just completely burned out? Can you work any self care into your work day? I am truly sorry after working somewhere 20 years, which you undoubtedly are a huge asset in experience and knowledge just want to throw in the towel. This leadership is just so poor.

I’m hoping and praying it’s my turn. 20+ years here too and I just want the severance to get out of this hellhole.
