Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

What would Citibco have to pay you to stay?

When evaluating an offer from another company, how does one assess the current job from Citibco? What is the value assigned to the risk of some change to one's position/salary/bonus/RSUs?

Assume Citibco is paying you 100K with potential for 20% bonus (20K) and you have 100K in RSUs that "mature" in 11 months. Ignoring everything else, that sounds like you will make 220K (100K salary + 100K RSUs + 20K bonus) over the next year. If some other company offered you 220K in the same structure, what's the "math" that you would use? When evaluating a pay/bonus/RSU offer from company X versus current job from Citibco, what "penalty" is applied to the latter? 80%? 50%?

Keeping it simple, in reverse logic, if you had an offer from another company for 100K, how much would Citibco have to pay you to "risk" staying? 150K? 200K?

I left previous company to join Citrix at a -15% pay reduction. However I wanted out of previous company plus had a better oppty to learn new tech at Citrix. All went well until layoffs came and that was enough for me to start looking.

Now, I’ve moved on from Citrix but there would be nothing they could give me to stay. Ship is sinking and current mgmt has NO idea how to bail the water out of this ship.

He morale is non-existent and nothing will be done to improve it except diversity and inclusion which doesn’t move the needle.

I've recently left for -25% in base and I'm so happy about the new company and where it's heading I can't even describe it. The pay cut was all worth it for the new culture and product. Yes, I had higher offers, but the impression they made was too good to go elsewhere/stay at Citrix.

@2exd+1gZJtxBY For me it would have to be at the offer total comp (base + equity+ bonus) +25% all in base Citibco pay. No future promises via equity or bonus.

My original post was not asking would we get pay increases when Citibco is created, who would ever think that? It was how to compare an offer from an outside company against the current salary from Citibco. What premium would be necessary to "stay" at Citibco and not take an outside offer? i.e. how much MORE money would Citibco have to pay you than the offer for you to consider staying at Citibco?

If you are making 100K and get an offer for 100K, I assume most people on this site would take the offer and leave. If are making 125K and get an offer for 100K, is that too low to quit? what is that premium/breaking-point?

I agree with the first part of your post.

The second part is total cr@p. There are still a number of great people left at Citrix. Not as many as there used to be for sure. However to suggest everyone at ANY company is terrible and lazy and afraid of change is $tupidity.

Plus if Tibco people are going to despise Citrix people for staying the 6 months since the acquisition was announced, how would they justify the fact that they have stayed at a Vista/Elliot company for years?

You're asking the wrong question. Their top priority won't be employee retention, it will be customer retention (and finding clever ways to raise prices for all the legacy installed base). Harvesting new revenue is what they care about most.

Plus, they'll believe that if you're still around working at Citrix, then you're afraid to leave. Why pay incentives to apathetic people when you don't have to worry about them leaving? Tibco leaders won't respect you for staying put, they'll despise you for being afraid of change. There are no rewards required to keep the timid people working in fear.

If it is a real question, I'll answer. For the first year you can assume that Citrix / Tibco will pay RSUs as cash. The big difference is after that:

  • - No RSUs. Tibco will offer cash bonuses, but it is not clear how much are these. I expect less than the RSUs on average
  • The benefits will change for worse
  • PE offers sometimes so called 'Phantom Equity' which is not real RSUs, but provide some some upside if the company is sold.

What makes you think you will be getting any increase in compensation at acquisition?

I believe everything will remain exactly as it is, including current compensation, until 2023. If you watched the latest GEMs or All-Hands ELT has all but confirmed this. Any talk of retention or increased compensation has gone away since the first couple of GEMs.
