In a certain org, loyalty to leadership trumps, so go along because to speak up or offer opposing opinions, even if it’s within your job to do so, risks your future there because a perceived breech of loyalty is nearly unrecoverable

a number of SVPs & VPs who were involved with integrating WD/HGST/SANDSK are still around, and here they are with another crack at it splitting the org. Hurrah!

All executives will stick around until Kioxia merge for the golden parachute. They're smart enough to know that. Those who have quit were most likely pushed out.

Leapfrog technology and swapping market share with a competitor does not equal innovation and market leadership, so let’s drop the pretense that it does

Legacy WD was all about driving costs down. There were a couple of mistakes they turned to gold (Veloceraptor). The color marketing scheme was clever. That is why the HGST merge made sense. Legacy IBM had the tech. Helium was a winner and the combined companies could compete with STX. Then the flood hit and HGST people were put in charge including WD former CFO.

" He knows why the BoD installed him, and it's to streamline costs, reduce opex, pay down the debt and be no worse than Seagate. "

Yes. This is Western Digital.

When have they ever really emphasized anything else? Shortly after they finalized the takeover of HGST they gutted research. WD has always been about being cheaper than the competition, not the best. I can't remember once saying, "wow, that was a cool innovation WD announced ahead of everyone else."

Don't expect innovation and growth from Irving. He doesn't care about products or customers but will pretend to. He knows why the BoD installed him, and it's to streamline costs, reduce opex, pay down the debt and be no worse than Seagate. If you're looking for inspiration, look elsewhere.

Probably some ELT will depart, since some long timers probably disappointed by this decision, being overlooked. IT just joined WDC not long ago yet he was selected. Outsourcing mfg, IT, reducing middle managers should be otw. He is a trained MBA meaning passing the cost to partners, contractors and customers is the way forward.

What is the next curveball they will announce? think about the next logical thing to do, then they will do the opposite

"Now i know why Kioxia merger didn't go through so DG can be CEO on flash and grab some more money"

Yes, he wasn't going to get a huge bonus for making the merger happen and wouldn't have had any job with the new company.

I really hope you could tell that was sarcasm. Seriously, the comment above is just nonsense.

Irving Tan is based out of APAC. He is a former Cisco guy.

Isnt Irving based of US?

Irving Tan just another Cisco crony. Doesn't know the business, just a talking head. No vision, no strategy, no plan to do anything other than just more of the same, milk WD for $$ like DG did. Pretend like he cares about employees.

@zzr+1roQK5SA with development and manufacturing APAC centric, and a BU GM Stateside (if this org structure is retained), seems likely IT will continue APAC-based

@hfw+1roQK5SA he’ll be CEO of a split flash, but said nothing about a merger, should it happen, when he’ll likely parachute out bc Kioxia will be in charge

Why would they take DG when they have an opportunity rid him? Maybe because flash will just be sold off and it’s just a temp gig for the clown.

CE has to carry HDD and will scale accordingly. It’s not the out of State leadership that is critical to this process, it’s the leaders of critical functions who will make the decisions needed to see us through to our new future

DG wants more money and hence he is in SanDisk as there is more money involved. He is probably going to bring his Cisco cronies to SanDisk with him. At the end of the day he only cares about fattening his pocket.
