Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

A lot of work to do

Yesterday (Tuesday) we had a global IT forum. One of the female presenters showed a slide with IT personnel segregated by gender. Her comment was "Looks like we have a lot of work to do!" I keep thinking about her comment and just how asinine a comment she made. Isn't a person's gender as important as the number of freckles they may have? Hire and promote the best or you will lose them!

Why do we not want to hire the brightest and best over a person's genitalia. At a time when many corporations are abandoning DEI, we are still plunging ahead.

did a quick internet search and found this:

Only 20 percent of computer science and 22 percent of engineering undergraduate degrees in the U.S. go to women.

Were the percentages in the presentation lower than this? If not the work to do is elsewhere. If yes, then the comment was accurate.

I agree that outcome percentages should match the general population percentages. Prison population is 93% male. We have a lot of work to do.

Holy cr-p!! So this place isn’t an O&G company nor a technology company. It’s a bank at the minimum. Then they dabble a little in HR. I would give HR a D+ at best. Actual basics like paying the bills and procurement. What’s lower than an F. What is this place good at. Popularity contest. A+. Eval process for all F or lower. A career path and development. Lower than an F. Debating how and when to leave A+. Also looks like the Marxist within this company are becoming empowered to pet out like the rest of the country.

IT could learn from the commercial team. 3 out of 5 or 4 out of 5 of new university hires are women if you consider gender of the poster. Of course I could be wrong as I am assuming gender based off of appearance and didn’t ask their pronouns.

If 75% of your employees are male and 25% are female, then there is a good chance managers are not hiring the best, they are hiring every woman who applies and accepts the job offer. Queue retorts that women are smarter or better at jobs than women in 3, 2, 1....
