The Store Closures were announced to employees via email and are expected to close on Sunday August 30th 2020 with the Hackensack Store expected to close on Saturday, August 29th 2020 Due to the Bergen County Blues Laws that prevent the stores from opening up on Sunday unless it is an essential need. Liquidation sales are expected to begin on Thursday, June 26th 2020 and will conclude by the end of August. After these closures there will be no more Sears store in the state of New Jersey

That would explain why the people at the Edgewater, MD were being quiet and then all of a sudden there were links about a week later.
All of those New Jersey stores are going to close!! I am from a closed north jersey store. The store managers know things but legally can not say anything. Of course they are going to cover their own butt before any employees. So those working at Jersey City and Hackensack be warned!!! And FYI when our store was announce closing I wasn’t allowed to publicly disclose anything until about a week later. Wait for the jobs site to post the info because the employees lie when you call the stores.
And the truth shall set you free

Thank you! My point exactly! I was just in Rockaway, in that huge mall, same deal. I did stop at that food court right outside Sears though, great Chinese food. Anyway, I asked an employee, even asked for a manager, they reiterated they are NOT closing. Not even kinda, sorta, maybe. They are NOT closing, was the reply. This is what happens when things are posted without evidence. Eventually, if your mouth keeps writing Checks that reality doesn't Cash, it will catch up to you. That is what happened here. None of the 3 NJ stores are liquidating. Not Saying it won't happen later, down the line, but it isn't happening now.
The jobs for South Portland were posted just yesterday. Let's see what next week brings.
I just stopped by the Hackensack store. The 26th of June has come and gone and there are no Store Closing signs up. The original post was either a mistake or a lie. This is why proof is needed; unverified "email" notifications may start the conversation but they only go so far.
Long live Sears!
Sears in Rockaway and Hackensack ARE closing. Jersey city will remain for a while. The store is not telling people when they call and have not notified all of the associates that are out because of COVID. The liquidation will be complete mid September. I am 1000% positive.
Still not a shred of evidence to the NJ stores. And when I call them, they claim they are not closing. I think this OP was a false positive.
Many of you won’t like to hear what I have to say. But I believe EL made a deal with Judge Drain to keep people employed instead of shutting everything down during chapter 11 and not declaring chapter 7.
That gave him time to s— out every last drop of real estate.
Chapter 7 will happen before the 4th quarter.
But that’s just my opinion.
Plausible but not confirmed. Lacking the email or anything more concrete, we will all know by Friday anyway since that's when the signs should go up on the windows and doors.
So, they may be closing, but it’s still not confirmed.
Everything is on a need to know basis, though we all know Hoffman leaks like a sieve. A lot of people have seen the email, I've ever seen a screenshot of the email floating around on Imgur. I bet in the days that the board was censor delayed it got posted by multiple people. It's become apparently that at least some of the stores are confirmed via the jobs site, and the rest will be as well as the omnipresent STORE CLOSING signs inevitably go up. If you haven't seen it yourself and you work in the one of the stores affected, my advice is that you should be VERY concerned and make immediate preparations for the fact that the people in your chain of supervision think that you don't need to know.
@2lle+15yXu6Pd Just like the Chicagoland stores are still around? Oh wait.
Agreed. Using the word "Confirmed" in the header doesn't mean that something is actually confirmed. I'm all for unverified rumors in the first few hours, but it's been two days since the original message was posted. I don't see anything anywhere else to support the claim (not that it's implausible - just unsupported).
@2dhw+15yXu6Pd Pretty sure them closing down won't be far behind.
Are the Kmarts going to close as well or are they still considered essential?
I work in one of those stores and I didn’t get anything.
Bummer.
