Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Why does that frustrate you?

I don't mind that the new hires are paid almost the same as those of us who have been here for several years, but I see that many here are indignant about it. I don't think we would be paid much more even if newbies were paid less. So... why all the anger at new hires?

@2gmg. Apparently you are one of the lucky ones with Lowe's. Go read the Lowe's layoff board. It's an eye opener. Retail is retail.

LOL most youths of today are a bunch of lazy, privileged, depend on Mommy and Daddy for everything snots.
Some so called kids are 30 and still living with Mommy and Daddy and do not know how to function as an adult.
Sounds like you may be one of them Sunshine.

@2czn, retribution? Sad after 30 years you cannot recognize the difficult employment climate for our youth. 30 years ago retail was a career, even beginning at the lowest level, not a job. Same for every other customer service industry.

I can’t stop laughing reading these posts. I left Macys last year and went to Lowe’s. I was hired in at 16.00
an hour and I am now making 21.00 an hour eleven months after starting. I couldn’t be happier. Lowe’s expects a lot of you but they are fair and will pay for performance. The store management is fair and equitable. Try finding that at Macy’s. There is is no favoritism shown at Lowe’s like there is at Macy’s. At Macy’s all you need to do is kiss up and you are not required to work. The people who work at Macy’s are expected to do more and the kiss ups get away with doing minimum.
When Walmart and Target needed to increase the rate in order to hire new people they adjusted the pay of current and tenured employees accordingly.
Macy’s is the only major retailer who is screwing their current and tenured employees by paying new hires the same. You need to stop drinking the Macy’s Kool-Aid , do your research and look for a new job to get away from the Macy’s lies.

To be honest Walmart is the worst retailer, work there for three months and went back to Macy's. Also just read the comments on Walmart Inc. Layoffs, they treat the employees terrible. I should of done that before going to Walmart, I didn't know what I was going into. There's a saying that the grass is greener on the other side but first investigate and get yourself inform.

Macy’s is the most unethical retailer in the country.

Not if you read the Lowe's, Sam's Club, Kohls, Little Giant and Walmart forums. According to those posts they are the worst retailers.

No bitterness it’s called retribution. Macy’s is the most unethical retailer in the country. The employees are going to give Macys what they deserve.
If you think the stores look bad now just wait and see them in a couple of weeks.
As a tenured employee my new motto is do unto Macys what Macys has done unto us. They treat me disrespectfully and unethically well I am going to do as little as possible just like the new hires and the kid managers they hired do. If they can get away with it so can we.
JG and his band of misfits
can 💋 my a—! Top management walks away with millions for destroying a company and you expect the rank and file to give blood. No more 💋 off !

Why the bitterness over equal pay for new hires? In retrospect you should be thankful for the environment and opportunities your 30 years of service will pay off in your retirement years.

  1. . Most likely you will retire with a pension, possibly even 401k retirement plan.
  2. You were most eligible for commission pay, at least until return from Covid19 shut down.
  3. You worked and made a career salary.
  4. When you were hired as a FT Employee 30 years ago, your work week guarantee was 40 hours per week.

I’m right there with you. Disgusted by “what was and what is now.” I hope your conversation changes and you encourage these new hires to; prove performance, make every day productive for at least resume recommendations, and seek further education to promote themselves.

I was a 30 year support associate before I retired and I ran rings around most all others. Floor moves, unloading trucks and rolling up to 20 rods on any given day to merchandise. I also had long tenured coworkers doing the same. We had a strong work ethic that is sorely lacking in the current group of hires.

Umm.... ' work here to get my nails done' is a common phrase used in a work place. Same as 'living the dream' . If you have 30 years and are still on the floor you may have other issues than worrying about new hires.

If you are working for Macys 30+ years you probably get 6 weeks vacation time. That’s hard to walk away from any job.

It is ridiculous i am a 30+ yr employee and have bent over backwards for this company and to have people walking through the door making more money than I was making before the raise is despicable. The new hired are some of the stupidest people I have ever worked with. One said she's only working so she can get her nails done. She doesn't put anything back where it goes. In the morning when you ask her to open a register you get the eye roll. Many others are being given just a single job so much for integrating. What a joke.

Bologna it is a different era!
Most reputable retailers have adjusted the pay rate accordingly and have not screwed their tenured employees. Costco, Target and even the sleazy Walmart are paying their tenured employees more. You need to climb out from under your rock and do some research on what retailers are paying.
Macy’s has always been unethical and will always be unethical.

At any non-hourly job, someone new could be making more than a longer term employee. At salaried positions, this happens too. It is what it is. If you don't want to train a new hire, say no, and let the CX associates train them

Accept it or not we are living in a different era. Alot of companies are starting to pay $15/hour regardless if they have employees working more than 10 or 20 years. That's the way it is, times are changing.

An employee who isn’t a manager shouldn’t be responsible to train or keep an eye on a new hire? I wouldn’t be good at training even though I am good at what I do.

Are you for real? It’s called seniority. It’s so disrespectful that new hires were getting paid more than employees who have been with the company for several years. Also, the new hires are not required to do as much work. So the people who have been there longer are required to put in more work and get paid less? Get outta here.

You speak of several years which is nothing, but the indignity comes when tenured employees of 15, 20 years are being paid the same as new hires and asked to manage these new hires and to keep an eye on them. Total disrespect for loyalty and strong work ethic. Shame on the corporate mind set and the senior managers that are encouraging and supporting this travesty.

A lot of our new hires are for part time positions. When a full timer quits, that position is not available anymore.

I’ll tell you why because the new hires do not want to work. They don’t want to do the dirty work required of the tenured associates.
The clueless management of Macy”s approaches the tenured associates because that is the path of least resistance for the lazy management. That way they don’t have to explain to someone what needs done and how to do it. They put the work on the tenured employees and run away to sit in their office, drink Starbucks and play on the computer.
This company has gone from bad to worse. The new people call off, can’t work weekends or nights but yet that is ok. Macy’s is setting themselves up for a disastrous holiday season.

What if new hires were making MORE?

I know you don't want to believe that cause it will make you feel bad, but I GUARANTEE they are.
