They will be bought out by PE and Mr. Hashi will buy a Hawaiian island. He will profit.

2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Lots of words with little attachment to the reality of hashicorp. They have not been profitable since it was founded in 2012.

Ten years is long enough of a runway.

They will be bought out by PE and Mr. Hashi will buy a Hawaiian island. He will profit.

It's time to kick Pivotal-Tanzu to the curb. How am I supposed to feel bad for unqualified people who got leadership positions simply because they buddy'd up to Edward. His secretary became a lead project manager. How? An engineer who managed 2 people for less than a year got a leadership position where he managed 700+ people. How? Unfair hiring practices. They weren't qualified. They weren't impressive. They were this British guy's friends and they didn't deserve the positions. Now, they are out. How is that not fair? So many of us suffered in Tanzu because we didn't come from Pivotal. They were not smart. They were just friends. Yeah, bye.

"Yes, hashicorp is also a failing non profitable company then, looks like they can join the pivotal club. Congrats and enjoy being a member."

Don't confuse lack of profits with failure.

All startups in the growth phase will prioritise growth over profit, as it's more costly in the long run to stunt your growth chasing early profit and get overtaken by you competitors. Lot's of startups don't make it to profit, but plenty do and the ones that do all go through a non-profitable phase. Some startups have a bumpy road and make it, others don't.

Just pointing out that your binary logic is flawed and there's much more nuance.

"Tell me that you know nothing about Tanzu without telling me that you know nothing about Tanzu."

Not to mention the fact that many of those folks told the Pacific team that it was a terrible idea. Yet another example of a VMware solution looking for a problem.

Pivotal really lives rent free in your head.

BTW, most of your statements apply to Hashicorp.

IPO'd at $80, currently $21.
Lost $10 and nearly 1/3 of their value on the 8th of June .
Lost over $200m over the last year, with ~$650m revenue.
~30% YoY revenue growth.

Last I checked Hashicorp are still a functioning business. Your assertions about what would have happened if VMW hadn't swooped in to pay Michael Dell $15 per share (under MDs instruction) and Pivotal imploding are just wishful thinking on your part.

Bitter much?

"Combine desperately needing to insert ESX into Kubernetes,"

Tell me that you know nothing about Tanzu without telling me that you know nothing about Tanzu.

Project Pacific in vSphere 7.0 (AKA TKGS) was 100% built by CIBG. It was announced prior to Pivotal joining and didn't contain any Heptio code (if you ignore open source cluster API contributions).

Heptio was an aqui-hire for VMware to look like a legit Kubernetes vendor. It was a bad decision by Magoo to put them in charge unconditionally. They were smart to have invented Kubernetes and get millions based on hype, but there was no real business there or afterwards as they were out of their depth. A great grift, not a great business.

You mean those id--ts who flipped their startup in 2 years for north of $600M? Yep, they sure had no business sense! LOL

You mean the company Maritz was forced to deal with as he acquired so many companies unrelated to core VMware?

You mean the company that was never profitable with a GAAP net loss of $141.9M in 2019?

The company that lost more 1/2 their market value in a day, from $22 to to $10 and eventually landing at $8?

The company that got bought by the same company that spun them out to stop their bad investment from bleeding to death? The company that IPO’d at $15.00 a share and was reacquired by their at $15.00 out of kindness and heavy dose of financial engineering?

Sounds like some great business sense if you live in fantasy land.

“Rob Mee noted that they closed fewer deals than expected in Q1, attributing this to sales execution issues and a complex technology landscape that lengthened their sales cycles “

It’s a complex technology landscape mom! It’s not my fault. So complex… so complex.

Clap!

Gong!

They were in the Gong Show of failed companies for sure.

Makes you wonder, do they know what they're really getting with this acquisition?

Just rub some CRDs on it and all will be better

"Pointing out how that will fail, just like it has for years, is not hate, just facts."

And, they appear to be key facts that Hock Tan has overlooked. I've been amazed by his uninformed quotes about how Broadcom Software will become a leader in Cloud now that they have access to VMW's assets.

Makes you wonder, do they know what they're really getting with this acquisition?

Combine desperately needing to insert ESX into Kubernetes, an utterly failed product and obscenely arrogant organization (ie Pivotal), long time incompetent leadership under Paul F, a bunch of open source jockeys with 0 business sense (ie Heptio) and sprinkle the insane cost of the two acquisitions (Pivotal + Heptio)...

Pointing out how that will fail, just like it has for years, is not hate, just facts.

Imagine operating a business where you lose 50% of your market cap in one day, only to be acquired (read: rescued) by the same org that spun you out, and then believing that you should be handed the keys to all of Tanzu.

Sadly, they were given the keys, and the rest is a very predictable - selling stuff that no one wants.

All joking aside, Rob historically has a constant stream of open EUC sales positions, if anyone is interested.

FYI, well over half the EUC sale team churns continually, due to lack of quota attainment. It's been a tough year to close renewals ever since the COVID peak and customers locked-in another year of license or subscription before the anticipated AVGO price hikes take effect. So, before you exit the Tanzu sales team, do your research.
