It is SO incredibly dysfunctional. Schwab has business team’s that think they understand technology, and a technology unit that is forced to accommodate the insane requests of the business. Business should be focused on outcomes and process KPIs, not tech… let the tech teams do that.
Want to know why tech is attempting to keep up???? It’s because for so many years the business got whatever they wanted and money was blown. Now we have so much tech, mismatched process and business teams that think they know tech when they barely know their business. Loss of focus.
How to fix? Standardize business / tech strategy.. lose the existing tech strategy group they’re part of the dysfunction supporting wasted investment. Get some decision makers that unbundle the mess created over the past 20 years. Go simple.
Big push on AI but zero confidence it’ll happen, it’ll just compound the confusion. AI is being done in pockets also, no real core AI team that’s effective. STS isn’t in front of it, and struggles with how complex the system world is that was implemented.
STS is accommodating the business and needs to be allowed some authority to end business teams getting whatever they want without consequence. It’s a disaster, not at all STs’s fault, I believe it’s the EC and enormous “get whatever tool you want” motto. Then, how come our spend on tech is so high? Umm. Get your business owners more accountable to outcomes…. Not the authority of tech.
Yes, the check is good. However, would be great to see the current EC make some business driven decisions on reducing platforms, getting to basics, consolidation, and get your business teams focused on whatever outcomes they are there for. To me, business side is so inflated… AI can probably eliminate most of them.
