Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Question from folks who came through Symantec or CA

Did you get downleveled after acquisition? What is the criteria BC uses for leveling?

You won’t be given a choice about the level. Forget the pride, count the money (and I’m sure you didn’t understand yet how much that is - read this again in 3 years from now).
IC4 is a very good grade - likely one of the safest ones in terms of compensation/rating risk.

@7ftp+1p9ribus I would say IC4 or above. There is a downside to being higher. Broadcom ranks based on band and job, but you are ranked among your same band within your BU. So they higher you go, the fewer people in your band. They have forced ranking, so someone is getting screwed every year. It is kind of messed up, as an IC7 with 35 years of experience might get ranked a 3 simply because there are only 10 of them in the whole BU and someone has to get it.

what band is considered relatively senior in broadcom?

@1zxy+1p9ribus Really? As it was life changing for me. I went from getting little to no shares, and no bonus, to getting a 30% bonus and enough stock to make me a millionaire. While I do think there are issues with BC, if you are in a more senior position and manage to be kept on, you will likely benefit from it in an extremely positive way.

Symantec employee, no downlevel, same salary. A lot more RSU so way higher pay… 3x

There are really no Symantec people left to speak of at this point, some B players left. CA has been tougher as they have a lot of tenure and yes down levelled, no creativity, no ability to make any decisions, there is freedom in that as well (apparently).

All managers were levelled down. Individual contributors were not. Salaries were unaffected but no pay rises, at least for the period I stayed.

Yes, it didn’t hurt too badly. You will learn to deal with disappointment at BC.
