Thread regarding CVS layoffs

The reason we don't know who is being laid off

They are using A.I. to pick which of us are leaving and the results aren't in yet. All they have to do is put the number of people to let go in (5000) and it will dig through communications and data to make the selections. Productive, loyal employees are relatively safe.

I could imagine an algorithm to query some of the metrics AI would reference to accomplish this. But much of the data is siloed, so it's not feasible -- yet. Think about the power of aggregating various logs and feedback, system use, etc and then creating an "actionable" score.

I literally busted out laughing when I read this post.

These people have made A.I. the new boogeyman.

I’m baffled at how stupid you’d be to think that CVS, a company that runs on 50 year old systems with more bandaids than anything else keeping them together, are just casually using some type of AI to generate layoff lists.

As someone who has had to give names, I can say with certainty this is absolute nonsense.

Tell me what AI algorithm is used to pick who to layoff and what type of optimization metrics it uses to base this decision? Exactly, as an AI engineer, you don’t know sh-t.

Bug eaters will keep shilling for AI until it happens to them...

Man these layoff threads have me thinking many corporate employees are unintelligent and do not understand technology or learning models. I hope all the weird AI conspiracy posters specifically get laid off. You people are too stupid for jobs involving a computer.

@1zhg+1nW5iYW3 Total agree with you.
It doesn’t matter who prepared that final list. Some consulting firm or AI bot. But If someone is on that list, their manager is definitely aware of it by now. Otherwise, the manager is also under threat. You can’t just randomly throw people out and expect good returns on any project, unless you are scrapping the whole project.

The reason we don't know who is being laid off is because it hasn't been fully enacted. It was announced ahead of the earnings so employees didn't find out that way but they wanted to announce so the stock price would stay steady. Everyone will find out closer to the end of pay periods, thus Aug 14 for CVS corporate that is bi-monthly pay periods. These things take months of planning so if your ticket is up that's been pre-determined. It's one giant math problem that's already determined.
