SAP using ServiceNow

A buddy of mine telling how much SAP relies on ServiceNow to provide ticketing, knowledge and AI solutions. What's the deal with this as I thought this was SAP's bread and butter stuff. I believe Flexera and Coveo are also needed?

@1ze SAP have their own AI chat bot called "Joule" but it's cr-p. They also don't have their own model, they just pay for licensing and wrap chatgpt/Mistral stuff. It's cr-p. I don't think they use ServiceNow for any AI. There are AI tools for things that they've added for support engineers to use, but it's custom stuff.

@1wv to add to this the Servicenow system is slow takes months to get minor changes into production. Absolutely zero value has been realised from using Servicenow as the team behind lacks any innovation other than increasing its adoption within SAP. Oh and the operational running of the platform is another third party company. McDermott made a bad decision or dubious decision 5 years ago and the SAP leadership dysfunctional as it is, hasn't been able to.correct that bad decision since.

So SAP spends serious money on Servicenow and helps to enhance Sericenows product effectiveness whilst getting no value back from the deal. All this while it's clear Servicenow is working towards offering HR and Finace enterprise solutions.

In the medium term, they may build (or acquire / partner) components to cover more of the HR “core” and finance “core” functionality, to provide more of an “enterprise suite” feel.

@1wv is Servicenow Ai bot being used and does SAP not have an Ai own solution?

The actual answer is that despite having internal tools for ticket and knowledge handling that worked perfectly, SAP did indeed decide to move all of this over to ServiceNow a few years ago. They claimed this was for technical or workflow reasons publicly but it was actually just because Bill McDermott left as CEO of SAP and became CEO of ServiceNow. He then used his contacts and friends on the board level at SAP to get this HUGE contract for ServiceNow. SAP are paying a crazy amount of money for using a platform that they already had a working alternative for.
It's just execs lining each other's pockets.
