Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Can't find a job that pays the same

I've been looking for the past six months. There are plenty of options, but when we start discussing pay, it's always under what I make here. The best offer I got so far would knock me down by a little over ten percent. Now, I know Ford is not above industry standard when it comes to pay, so I can't figure out what's going on. I'm a product manager, by the way.

My advice is find the job you want and go for it. I was a part of the last 2019 SRD and was pushed out of Ford. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I got to work for another company that actually had LEADERSHIP in place, actually cared about its employees, and had a great corporate culture. I looked for a non-mananagement position and as a result I was able to get a much better work life balance. Yes I am making less money because I targeted a lower responsibility position but “I got my life back” and life is so much better after Ford. Even being employed I still get inquiries from other companies that see your profile on places like LinkedIn, and job post sites (Indeed, Monster, etc.) so if you want other options down the road I assure they will come. Just look at the “entire package” and not just the paycheck. Just some advice from someone who already went through this process. Good luck.

Be careful of the cost of living trick that Ford HR pulls on you. The cost of living and the pay is sometimes higher in other places because it's often a better environment, both the surrounding geographical area and the company culture. How many days have we all trudged over snow covered freeways in the dark of winter through fairly dangerous dont-stop-for-gas Detroit neighborhoods just to go to some useless staff meeting in a grim no- window conference room?

GM and Stellantis will at least match your Ford salary. If you have updated skills (AV/EV), they will pay a little extra. Those 2 have their own set of problems but they would be a change of pace from Ford. You can fetch a higher salary at a Tier 1 or 2 but expect to put more hours in.

Just go for the job you want. You can learn to live on less income. For example, instead of driving newer cars, the whole family can drive beaters. They are easy to repair, using YouTube and automotive forums.

2akk,

Exactly, companies and people are leaving CA because of the high taxes and cost of living.

@1zad+1eyQrCoT They pay better because cost of living is higher. Doubt it’s that much of an increase when you factor that in.

Are you searching geographically? You probably won't get any pay increase if you focus only on jobs here in Michigan. Around Detroit, the Big 3 definitely pay the best but if you're willing to move to the West Coast CA or the up coming cities in Colorado and Texas you can find similar positions that pay better.

@izei - the most useful thing I got out of the few years of Global Huddles & Townhalls is seeing enough of Billy and both Jims speaking that their mannerisms when lying are now obvious. That really does help sort out the boring chaff, general BS, and dangerous stuff coming down the line.

I'd rather go back to 2003 when you still got a pension.

Funny how Ford gives lip service to the woke, then has layoffs every few years, screws their employees, and just didn't care much about people. Just saw an article how they added another old white guy to the board. When Bill was asked about it he gave lip service, again, to wanting to promote women and minorities. I guess we long as you make everyone meet once a month on DEI then you don't have to actually practice DEI.

1eym+1eyQrCoT,

Woke and Broke is almost everywhere. Where can we go? I watched the movie Idoiracy the other night, and the main character just wanted go back in time to the year 2005. Sigh.. don't we all want to go back to 2005?😔

LOL @vfn
Funny (for me anyways), Brutal (for Ford), and The truth (for everyone)

@tzp - I don't blame you there one bit with the dedication to the Woke & Broke agenda being pushed from on high in conjunction with moving white collar jobs to MX & India.

I would gladly leave Ford for a 10% pay decrease.

Keep looking, something will turn up.
I had a number of low ball offers before finding a job with a 17% increase.
There are lots of jobs out there. The salary can vary.

Maybe they know people from Ford are dying to leave so they can afford to low-ball.

@wrx

It depends on your area of expertise. If you're in tech (software, cloud, etc) then Ford definitely underpays relative to the competition. The premise for purchasing the train station was to draw tech talent and 'compete with Silicon Valley' which demonstrates that talent is going elsewhere because there is an elsewhere to go to. I don't know how it is for other skills but Ford does not have the greenest grass if you're a top-tier tech talent.

They are out there. Keep searching. I got a 20% pay increase. Perhaps I was under paid at ford, so guess it depends on where your start point is.

But but but all the anti vaccine people keep saying there are hundreds of jobs paying 25% more just begging them to come work. So which is it?
