Macy's Sweat Shop, Literally!!!

Given how similar many responses are to other topics, I was wondering if other stores are as unbearably hot to work in as mine is.
Employees are perspiring, sweat running down their faces and down their backs, as they attempt to do their jobs throughout the store. Numerous complained of feeling nauseous or light-headed as they worked through their shifts.
Customers are voicing their disgust while standing on line, oftentimes dropping their merchandise and leaving the store.
I have contacted the executive office, almost on a daily basis for relief. The standard reply: "we've put in a work order." After months of addressing this, the answer is always "we've put in a work order."
This past week we had a district visit and guess what? The building was cool. A pleasure to work in. Comfortable. The rest of the week? Right back to the same old, same old.
I am so angry about how we are being treated. The escalators and lights don't get turned on until right before the doors open. Okay, we get it. Not great for those of us coming in early, but we get it. But there is no excuse for treating us employees, you know, the ones who actually show up and WORK, to be treated like cattle. If management won't do it for us, at least be smart and fix the problem so the company stops losing business from over-heated customers who have a choice to go elsewhere.

The “ Magic of Macy’s “ that is spoken about below is exactly what will eventually put this once iconic store out of business.
The Sr, management, middle management, regionals and store leaders are only concerned about their bonuses and nothing else. They turn their heads and act like the problems do not exist.

That is why the stores are dirty and dingy, hot in the summer, little if any customer service and unfair wages
( new hires being paid the same as long term employees) , merchandise is abused and neglected, markdowns are not done, merchandise is stolen. Leaders just do not care.

Greed is destroying this company and yes this company is on the same path as Sears.

My location is comfortable.. can it be cooler, YES....is it a Hot Yoga Studio, NO! Also, our store is fine with supplies ie toilet paper, glass vleaner, paper towels, disinfective wipes hand sanitizers and alcohol. Shopping bags, register tape and fulfillment supplies are fine as well. We're not a big store just a small experiential door.

Nothing like needing to put in a hot store request that goes to San Fran which is like never hot. How could they know our pain down in So Cal?

How about the basics in your store such as having paper towels, soap, and toilet seat covers. Our store rarely has these things anymore. It’s sad that we have to bring them from home.

Same and it's been this way for many years. Having a centralized company control the air, heat, and lights in a large chain of stores is not a new concept. The previous retailer I worked for over 20 years ago had this. Bring in a thermometer to record the temp. Call OSHA.
My Macy's is the warmest store in the mall. Always has been even before I worked there.

Our store too (central Jersey). When you walk in, the heat hits you in the face. It’s disgusting. Customers complaining, no one cares. We are having a visit on Wednesday, so I guess it will suddenly work!

Yep the only time the AC gets cranked up is when there is a visit.
The only time the piles of merchandise gets cleaned up is when there is a visit.
The only time more help is scheduled or additional people brought in from other stores is when it is “SHOW TIME”
How stupid are the regionals and senior management to announce their visits. They don’t want to see reality. They want to live in their fantasy land.
The regional‘s need to take a real tour of the stores behind the scenes where all of the sins are hidden. Go into the stockrooms, storage areas, docks, receiving and any “extra trailers”parked at the store. The lazy regionals don’t want to see or deal with the real “MAGIC” of Macy’s.
There is more Last Act merchandise in the stockrooms than on the selling floors. It stays there until it is marked to a penny or just damaged out. If it’s damaged out the store leader is not penalized. Most of this merchandise is not damaged it is just disposed of.
The operation of our store is a joke.

They will bake us all summer.

The store leaders get bigger bonuses if they keep the expenses as low as possible.
They can request that Cincinnati turn the AC on earlier or higher but they choose not to.
They can order additional cleaning services like vacuuming or deep cleaning the restrooms but they choose not to.
They can hire more people but they choose not to.
They can have celebration luncheons or little parties on occasion but they choose not to.
By keeping expenses to bare minimum it means more money in their pockets.
That is the magic of Macy’s !
