Thread regarding Allscripts layoffs

No one is safe

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been employed, what you’ve done, how many hours you work, what business unit, what location, etc. When your number is up, it’s up at this company. No one is safe from getting RIF’d. I see they’re starting to bring back furloughed people. Probably at a fraction of my salary, less the 20% I’m still giving back.

Couldn't agree more, @5bsk+15yCjGtX.

@2syw+15HJpjGa Congratulations! I have an in-law that is in late 50's and has been unemployed for over a year. A long coming job offer was rescinded due to the pandemic. So, thanks for sharing that inspiring story!

I worked in the Burlington,Ma office they moved me from a tech support role to a system engineer role which was really just installing sunrise every day. No training no sql back ground just a body! Six years later at 62 let go, I was like now what do I do, I busted my butt got a contracting job with in two weeks banking the package money from allships for 19 weeks. I continued to look for work, found full time work within two months. I now work back in support supporting first responders for a municipality. And much much happier! So don’t hate your job and stay, or fear the unknown. Life after that hell hole is much brighter.

Yes, many companies also use a curve when doing performance evaluations so that only so many people get raises in a given year. If the company is fair then everybody gets their "turn" for a raise at some point in the future. Assuming, that the employee is doing a "decent Job".

That's why everyone needs to have an emergency fund. Depending on what state you work in unemployment benefits may not cut it to pay your expenses. Sadly, most people do not plan for an "employment disaster" such as being laid off.

@1ynr+15HJpjGa - I don't think there's any psychology reverse or not involved. The only time performance reviews are in play is when upper management orders middle management to artificially lower PMRP scores through the x amount of points per y employees method which forces any 3s or below into leaving with separation pay or trying to survive a nebulous one month PIP goal. That's been discussed elsewhere on this board. In cases like that mentioned below, i think it's more a case of teams that are all nearly at the same pay and the immediate manager is unwillingly given a choice to choose who gets canned - that manager is going to save the most productive or "visible apparent work output" employee every time regardless of PMRP score, which everyone knows is a complete farce.

What is the reverse psychology attached to the performance reviews that people they keep get poor performance reviews, and people get great performance reviews gets let go.

Not sure what’s so difficult to understand about Allscripts layoffs. They have nothing to do with performance or age or experience or anything for that matter. They will just happen for the rest of you co its a sinking ship and the bomb is ticking!

Last time I spoke to someone laid off, they had a perfect performance review. I had a poor performance review and wasn’t laid off. But worked my butt off while teammates didn’t have a clue. Go figure..

You have no other options for life but you do for employment. There is no reason to stuck with the sinking boat. Cannot wait for my turn to receive packages and get out of here. Allscripts is the worst nightmare in my career.

You may be right about life in general, but when you have dedicated + 20 years to a single company and you are nearing retirement age, it is not a morale booster to think you may your job just because the company needs to reduce payroll. Once you are 55 and older, a lot of companies are really not interested in you as a potential employee. No amount of severance and/or unemployment is going to replace the lost income and benefits you will likely experience when you lose your job. I understand these are not good reasons to keep an employee but that is definitely a concern of every older employee on staff unless they are fortunate enough to have a big bankroll and/or an executive-like contract that takes care of them for a significant amount of time.

It is one thing if you are not doing your job and/or you have had poor performance reviews, but when none of that is true, it is a hard pill to swallow.

Isn’t that true for life as well! Take one day at a time. Stay safe from Covid19 and thank the Lord for waking us up everyday! 😊
