GM Layoffs: "There Is A Difference Between Being Bold & Being Ruthless," Says Fired Employee

“This email stated that "We (Software and Services) are critical to GM’s bold vision for the future—as we build that future, we must also make bold choices that enable us to move faster, pivot when needed, and prioritize investing in what will have the greatest impact." There is a difference between being bold and being ruthless and cutthroat. That difference is empathy and compassion. Empathy and compassion for the people that enable GM to be as successful as it is,” the post reads.

“At the end of the day, GM proves that they have none. We are nothing but numbers to them, fat to be trimmed off in the pursuit of the almighty dollar. Even though they recently celebrated a $4.6B profit in Q2 2024... that was not enough for them. We were not even given the common decency to say goodbye, just thrown onto the curb like useless trash,” he added in his post.

There are GM cars made in Mexico and China. How does your analogy work now?

If anyone at GM has shopped at Walmart, or purchased products that have been outsourced to China, you have been complicate in outsourcing other folks jobs. And you should easily understand that saving money matters. The shoe factory folks lost their jobs, now the shoe is on the other foot.

Making 50 dollars an hour to push a stupid button doesn't increase the price of the end product? Are you insane? Auto unions have forced average consumers to pay their ridiculously high wages by holding the company hostage. Wages directly impact the price of the end product. If you think otherwise you are delusional and have never ran your own business.

Itt:more paid shills and mo--ns that think the union has something to do with this... In reality it's the poor quality of the end product, low demand and poor management

It all started with the price increase in energy. The end consumer is the person that pays for inflation. The current problem is the average American is tapped out.
I sincerely feel so sorry for the ones that will be affected, especially the ones with young children.

You can't be loyal to a company because they'll never be loyal to you.

You always have to put yourself first.

“ Hard numbers and decisions” are supposed to make the ~600 engineering & tech workers at the Warren Tech Ctr feel better after getting that swift kick🦵to the Cahónes from Mary & her management team??😩😢

My sincere sympathies to those that lost their jobs but emotions and feeling don’t keep a business competitive and profitable for the future. Hard numbers and decisions do.
