  • morale is below the basement

You made my point.

Leave is you are unhappy.

If you like (tolerate) working at Ford stay.

My comment is targeted to the whinners who continue to post these childish comments. Do something to improve your career direction. It is all on you not this blog to improve your career. Mommy isn't there to help anymore!

@jlt+1vuUNTD5 "People who ask to be laid off really make me sick."
I'm guessing that half the people asking to be laid off are going to retire.

People who ask to be laid off really make me sick. There’s a ton of people who get up and go to work no matter what the circumstances of their employer and try to do the best job that they can. Instead you whine and cry and ask to be laid off. If you are so unhappy, sack up and quit. Otherwise stfu because there are ten people who would love to have your job.

"What are a few months' pay, and benefits, unemployment compared to the extreme, harsh, mentally debilitating conditions you are having to endure at Ford!"

Could be the difference between a fulfilling break and continuing somewhere they aren't happy. Lots would gladly take the few months pay and benefits as that nudge they need to get out of whatever they are dealing with. Not everyone is miserable at Ford. However, if you are planning on staying for more than 3-5 years it IS where your career will go to die. Again, a dead career means different things to different people. How long are you going to continuously improve for that bonus that keeps getting smaller? How often is the goalpost going to be moved on programs that you put so much work into? This is also a symptom of working for a large company. Better to find a smaller one and let the upper management burn through the younger talent they think they need to keep the dream alive a few more years. That is just common sense and the result of looking at how work is right now.

Not going to hope for it, but I can say if it happens it shouldn't be an ego hit for anyone and it shouldn't be taken personally. What you need to realize is that if it happens to you, you are being let go by a company that is scrambling and looking for the low hanging fruit, which is and might always be labor. Don't let people tell you there are no jobs, this is the biggest lie out there. Yes there might not be jobs that pay as much right away, but take something if you have to. Why not make sure it's lower demand and take a break from stress for a while. I can say if you get let go and then refuse to take a job when things start to get tight because it's beneath you, you deserve what you get. Yes losing a job can be stressful, but if you've been doing the right thing up to this point you should have some time to take a breath, make a plan, and take a month off to relax. Don't freak out.
