Distressing that we aren't hearing chatter regarding RIFFs because we aren't in the office. They are happening this week guys. Managers notified Wednesday, all others Thursday. No RIFFs for Directors and above in this cycle.

Watson should have predicted that
The register is reporting that the Power and Storage businesses could be cut lose. I have been hearing rumours of a sale for sometime, but who would buy them? There is no value in the Storage Business and whilst IBM Power is a great architecture, it doesn't have enough customers or ISVs on it; the next generation Power chips will also cost a lot more to develop.
Can anyone tell me how the severance package works? My manager mentioned lump sum money for
90 days. Will I get my salary equivalent money for 3 months altogether?
For someone who commented on keeping H1Bs, no they aren't because I got laid off too and plan to return to my country to have only one uncertainty dimension of job instead of having 2 (job+visa) here.
Two years ago, I received RSU[ and a letter from Gini, 1% employee to receive this award, they said if I stay with IBM for least 2 years then I will get RSU[ $15000 equivalent of stock on OCT,2020 and additional $15000 on OCT,2021] . Since, I got RAed yesterday, it will be all gone. I am so annoyed when the job market was good and recruiters contacted with me frequently, I didn't respond to them rather focus on my performance improvement. Now, they throw us under the bus when the market is bad. I should have tried to leave when market was good instead of trusting them. Not only that, my manager told me if my performance is good on this particular project, I will also get an upper band. Just, two weeks ago, I got a thank you note for my excellent performance in this project. When I was expecting a meeting about my promotion, I got RAed...Nice job IBM. My manager is good...but people in very upper level they don't care at all.
@2dkn: Ugh. I certainly wouldn't put it past IBM to let you "sweat it out" until your manager comes back from PTO.
@1xum: With all due respect, you've been with IBM for 14 years and you're just figuring this out now? IBM has been a toxic work environment at least since Palmisano took the reins almost 20 years ago.
In Security, received a 1:1 meeting request today from my manager for tomorrow (Thursday). Any indication as to whether laid off US employees will get an extension of their health insurance?
@2dkn+152QkeZc : ugh, that’s a tough spot. I would think they have to do it by tomorrow or Friday at the latest.
What is your relationship like like with your boss? Do you talk outside of work? If stuff of going down in your department tomorrow you might want to send them a text message or reach out to their manager.
For your sanity, they owe you some answer.
Also can confirm 30 days notice, 90 days severance. Health benefits can continue for one year at current rate, then cobra. I'm on the list. Made it over 20 years before finally getting caught in an RA. Good luck. Tomorrow is going to be a hard day, but stay strong, my fellow RA'ers. We will get through this.
I am in GTS. I do not have a scheduled 1-1 for tomorrow with my manager (I thought I would by now).
My manager has taken PTO the rest of this week.
Has anyone heard of an RA notification being delayed due to ones' manager being on PTO?
I am in the United States - Eastern Time Zone.
Thanks and GLTA
I got a 1:1 meeting invite out of the blue from my manager today. I guess my name is also on the list.
Word is 30 days notice, ( brings you to end of 2nd quarter), and 90 days severance. Hopefully able to collect unemployment after signing IBM exit papers.
from what I heard, package better this time than recent past. that combined with covid virus should let them keep down the amount of age discrim suits, people need the sevarance moneys
One on one calls are the death knell. I was RAd in March, 2018 as were a few others and the 1:1 was scheduled for all of us. We all got 2 weeks notice and 30 days severance if you signed away your rights to participate in a class action suit. Good luck to all.
Got a 1/1 request today after quite a while without having one. Not in GTS, GBS, or Watson Health so hoping that's just a fluke. So tired of having to worry about whether the ax will fall on my head after 14+ years with IBM, including numerous patents and stellar customer support. Think it might be time to look elsewhere whether tomorrow is a horrible day or not.
What's happening:
@fzz+152QkeZc had it right
uh oh. sounds like tomorrow is the day for GTS. Does your invite say anything at all other than a one on one?
Surely, someone in this forum is a manager who has been informed what is happening?
Out of the Blue Meeting with Manager scheduled tomorrow. Guessing a RIF, 15 yrs with IBM in GTS
I've got a 1on1 with my manager tomorrow as well. No context in the invite and very random. My guess is RA. I'm in GTS.
I'm sorry to hear that. What team?
I got a special one and one meeting scheduled for this Thursday which is tomorrow. It looks like what the sayings above is true. Let's see what will happen. I regret for my decision to leave my former company. IBM is not as good as before. They haven't won any new contracts recently. A dying company.
Package???
The only thing left was the "goodbye and good luck" pat-on-the-back (push out the door) and that is no longer allowed due to COVID-10.
Has anyone heard what the package is ? (for GTS)
Think bold = keep H1B's. Boot American citizens.
If only IBM were to follow in Watson’s footsteps during the Great Depression... https://apple.news/AYvNFjsXjTH63elT5zkOVqQ
You are urged to take vacation time so we don't have to pay you for it when we RA you
IBM will keep what is strategic to them. Cloud, AI and Security is strategic. Everything else isn’t
"IBM cares about its employees. For this reason, we are asking you all to take some time off by the end of Q2 so you can enjoy life and sit on your hands during the lockdown. Just make sure you use your EARNED time."
Gee, I wonder why the employees have zero trust or confidence in the executive team?
What do you mean "scoped to move forward"? Do you mean they will be laid off or kept?
US action is this Thursday. Manager training was yesterday (Monday) and they were told notification details will be email today. If a manager is being notified that has team members in the action too they will be notified Wednesday.
Something very large is in the works as the board told management to think boldly. Each division has a different approach and headcount requirement going forward. These are the sizings that have been looked at. This doesn’t mean IBM will implement any of them as the board would have to sign off
GTS. 40% reduction. Only cloud, AI, and security were scoped to move forward
GBS. 25% reduction. Again only cloud, AI, and security are being scoped to move forward
Cognitive. Overlapping Redhat vs legacy IBM was looked at with the overlap being eliminated
Systems. Power and Storage elimination were looked at
In the U.S. there was an HR dial in call Monday/yesterday for people managers where the RIFs were discussed.
A colleague on this call said HR told her the timing is soon but probably not next week.
That is the only info I have at this point. I will post more info as I get it.
