Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Everyone is leaving

From another post.
All of the heavy hitters I know from tech, to project managers and managers have all said the same thing. They’ve had far more than enough, they are…..DONE! True, they need a paycheck but not necessarily a paycheck here. They are not waiting for the job market to improve, they are making moves now. I can’t even imagine the influx out of Citi once the market gets better.
Some were made counter offers (increase in pay) to stay for which was turned down. One of them….and I kid you not, was made a counter offer that was 20K less than where they were leaving to. Who in their right mind would say “Sure, I’ll turn down that extra 20K per year in order to stay here”. If Citi has an ace up their sleeve in order to retain top talent, they better use it now.

Where I’m at, there’s some heavy networking going on outside of Citi and I’m not talking about LinkedIn either. Now is a slow down as usual during the fall and winter. First quarter of next year when hiring picks up, there will be a migration of employees leaving Citi. Many are willing to take a slight cut in pay for somewhere more stable, managers as well.

Citi is not worth hanging around for talented people. It is only for politicians and unskilled employees. Hence the brain drain out of Citi.

I wasn't so lucky as to get a layoff package, but it still seemed a good time to get off the train and retire. So, I did. Sorry for those of you remaining and hope they don't gut future layoff or retirement packages.

Post ID: @2zjm+1v3Vsz4H Agree. There is No perfect job. What comes around goes around. There are people leaving other $HitHole and toxic companies like Deutsche Bank, BNY Mellon etc. that are replete with Regulatory and Law violations and fines,
and then joined Citi. Birds of a feather flock together.
The question for employees is How long can you tolerate the low salaries, low or non-existent bonuses, toxic work environment, no promotions etc. until these become the straws that broke the camel's back that motivate the employees to actively interview externally for new jobs???

One thing Citi can do for sure to run off top talent is to start beating the full time RTO drum. The WFH is the ONLY perk that Citi currently has as its certainly NOT pay and its FREE for Citi to do so. The infrastructure is already in place and it cost them nothing to allow those who job function allows it, to work from home.

To consider getting rid of this ONLY perk, is a huge strategic mistake…UNLESS your goal is TOO run off your talent.

People leave and people join everywhere and there is no dream company. But Citi became a very toxic culture. I can’t imagine untalented people promoted to higher levels because of favouritism. They don’t have any talents so it’s normal for top performers to quit

@1uon+1v3Vsz4H, and you'll be leaving with the others on the new job, too. I know a former coworker that left jobs every two years. There is no perfect job. Sorry.

The quality of people at JP is way higher than the d-mbos, hired by Citi in all locations in the past 20+Y. Why do you think JP has done so well since 2000 and Citi is scrapping the bottom?

I am currently working with SVPs in Risk in Warsaw who are total clowns - unless a D is supervising them from LDN or NYC they cannot take the simplest decision. Unlike at JP - EDs in Mumbai are on par with LDN EDs, because there are high standards.

Those who came from JP 3-4 years ago are so self-absorbed that they don't even realize how much damage they are doing to the company. As soon as the lady (MD) in Tech Infra leaves, she hopefully will take her entourage with her.

One could also say that you are staying because you don’t have the skills to go anywhere else.

Most Citi managers have never worked outside Citi. These are the inexperienced people making bad decisions and taking Citi down. Employee morale is in negative numbers. Citi is crumbling like a house built on sand.

Good. Based on the quality of the tech stack I have to work with every day it is better if these tech heavy hitters leave Citi :D

People on my end, and you won’t believe this, are meeting after work and sometimes on the weekend. You’ve heard of code writing parties, right? Have you ever heard of resume writing or mock trial interview or job searching parties? As odd as it may sound, this has and is happening. Crazy huh.

Peeps are so fed up that some of the guys are getting together Barnes and Nobles, Starbucks, someone’s home and job search, group apply or forward to each other what they find. They’ve reviewed each other resume, provided feedback and suggestions, done mock interview etc… all in the spirit of prepwork with the understanding that if they get something, they try to bring the others along with them.

I haven't seen that yet in the department I am in. I still see the same faces, just bearing the situation. I am noticing more burned out employees but not leaving.
