Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Return to work

Was just wondering if we're going to return to work after these 2 weeks. What's the probability of it extending past the 2 weeks, and who's going to pay us. IAM 751 ONLY! Trolls, we dont want your opinion

Nothing we are doing there is essential to the economy at this time. They are only endangering their workforce.......

@5zno Yeah and I guarantee you that what most of us are doing there has nothing to do with defense buddy. If you really are in acceptance of this than you are putting yourself, your family, your friends, even strangers at risk.

I got a call from my manager and he said we are going back next wednesday. And as for those that say Boeing must stay closed due to the shutdown, you are wrong. Boeing is considered an essential business because it is essential to the economy and because we make defense.

The governor said himself that the state closure was in no way related to any company or industry for that matter. Also, Boeing is going off of what the governor says not the other way around.

It's funny people here are calling others statements baseless and then give them an equally baseless response in return. You pollyannas need to realize that this is a severe and historical time in our lives. You can't be a doomsayer, but you need to wake up to reality. Ignorance will not only leave you at risk, but you will become a hazard yourself.

Don't be foolish. This is proving to be much worse than anticipated. Quarantine sites are being established. Economical disaster ahead.

Actually he does have a point. The governor ordered the 2 week stay at home order AFTER Boeing announced the 2 week suspension of operations. And the governors start date to stay at home was the same date as Boeing's. Coincidence?? Doubtful. And we already know Boeing will not think twice about putting people in danger for profit. It should be Boeing's slogan at this point. So april 8th Boeing will restart production unless remaining shut down cuts costs enough that its worth it. And its highly unlikely the governor will order Boeing to remain shut down or even bother to say one word in protest

Boeing doesn’t decide when we get to go back. The Governor does. And it looks like he is extending this until the end of April.

Millions??? Let's see... In Belgium they are already accepting that the elder will not be taken to the hospital. They will be left "to die" in their homes or nursing homes.
In Brazil, the president said that everyone will die of something eventually, so he does not give a damn about Brazilians dying, old or young. Africa... you tell me. And the Great Again America? The economy is first! So yes, millions will die. Tens of millions would be a better prediction. And "no one" can be assured that he/she will be spared. I myself am very very worried.

[This is just the start, millions will die. ] {milions}
This above statement is baseless

The worst case in modeling for mortality in the U.S. is 1.7 million deaths:
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/cdcs-worst-case-coronavirus-model-210m-infected-1-7m-dead.html
****
Our predictions for the Boeing workforce is 7% for the worst case scenario
given the age demographics of the workforce.
We can absorb a 12% mortality rate without any downside to production.
We will be back to full staffing in two weeks, the Max line reopens April 27
See you all back at work.
and
God Bless IAM 751 for looking out for our company

@1xbf+14dfjURl that is if they actually furlough you and you can apply for unemployment.

Boeing is considered essential due to the defense side of the house. Now, we all know that they could split out the commercial and furlough, but will they. They could use the shelter in place order to make you take PTO or vacation. That's how Boeing is.

I hope you are right as I am maxed out (the $600 is only for the first few months btw.)

Most likely temporary furlough. You will get $790+600 per week to stay home. Not bad. That is if you are maxed out. Sign me up.

As of today there are 77 cases of COVID 19 with Boeing employees worldwide and one death.

As Boeing employed over 150,000 people, that's 0.05% of Boeing's workforce infected and 0.0007% deaths.

So, let's cool it with the hysterics.

Do you count yourself in the 7% (you are not coming back...) or just, magically, you think you will be spared? Just wandering about your superpowers. That sounds amazing. I wish I was so sure about my survivality rate!

This is just the start, milions will die. You will have bigger worries than having a job. Pretty soon you will not have one nor unemployment benefits. You will be on your own, if you don't have money saved to live for a couple of years, then you are toast. We are at war with a virus that is invisible and diabolical. The virus will keep destroying everything it touches; people, companies, the economy, until we have an effective vaccine. God help the scientists that are working on it to not get infected.

@scf+14dfjURl congratulations, one Union member has not figured out the union dues do nothing for them. Now if the rest would figure it out.

Do the math. Multiply your per paycheck dues by the number of paychecks per year then by the number of union members.

That's a big damn number, and why do you see of that? Just checking.

Leadership uses that to go on retreats and to give to political action committees. You get NOTHING.

Unfortunately, none of that has been passed on. For us new employees with less than one year on the job, if the suspension lasts for months, there's only one choice to deal with this and that's move on from Boeing. It won't be worth it to try to stay and sc-ape by while the corporate management decides when to bring people back. I wouldn't put any faith in the union to help anyone who's affected by the suspended operations.
