Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Any rumors on when the VLOs will be?

We have those 3 rounds of ILOs coming up, but no one seems to know anything about the VLOs. I've heard some people say it will be after the first round of ILOs, but that didn't make much sense to me

Disclaimer: it's a gamble. In my case my finances are good and I have no debt. I liked my coworkers but started to hate working at Boeing and I wanted a change, so accepting the VLO was low risk for me. I didn't have much to lose. But if you have a bunch of kids or whatever, take some time to think.

And boeing may not even do another round of VLOs. But if they do and you decide you are ready, my best advice is to go on http://esd.wa.gov/labormarketinfo
See if the training you want to take qualifies as an in demand field. If it does, that helps a lot.

Another thing to keep in mind- it seems to me that it's almost impossible to get the TAA to fund a bachelor's or masters degree. Not to say no one has ever done it or that there are no loopholes, but for the most part the vast majority of people who qualified for this got at most an associates degree. So if the job you want requires a bachelor's you can present it but think of a few backup options that only require an associates

Thank you for clarifying that, many like myself did not know this. Will VLO also pay for retraining?
Tried contacting ESD but they have not gotten back to me.

Tomorrow there will be something to shed light on this. Golden handshake in the works for management, union nothing to report?

  • The Boeing Blow
  1. Boeing lost $15B in orders while delivering $14B worth of aircraft.
  2. Total year-over-year swing amounts to more than $50 billion.

Fake news. You can receive unemployment if you accept a VLO. I accepted the first one and received unemployment. Asked esd during the one month shutdown back in April, they said if the company announces they are offering VLOs to try to reduce ILOs and you accept, you are considered laid off

VLO and quitting do not allow an unemployment check( aprox. $2,500 a month) and free education for up to 104 weeks. Its not much if you don't have savings, but it is perfect if you do.

I would think that anyone (like 99%) interested in a VLO would have taken it already, so don't expect to see that reduce the ILO's
