Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Take some time for yourself

It's easy when you're a salaried office worker to get roped into working evenings and weekends to get a critical project done...but why do that now when it's clear OXY literally doesn't give a sh**? You could be the best employee they've ever had, but if the bean counters decide it's better for the bottom line to cut you, you'll be dumped on the curb in a heartbeat.

Take some time for yourself, and your kids especially if you have any. You won't look back 10 years from now and say, "gee, I wish I had worked longer hours."

OXY still can’t do lay-offs. They are seriously hamstrung by the Anadarko COC. Can’t lay-off legacy APC... would be seriously unfair to lay-off only legacy OXY. Otherwise I’m sure they would walk in with meat cleaver and whack thousands.

Back to work, no time off. Oxy owns you.

Serous though, f— Oxy. As one said before....

"DO NOT put work in front of family. If you say that you have to in order to keep your job, then it's time to find a new one." -Anonymous

Oxy doesn't pay sh– anyway. They are cheap as hell when is come to paying for your time and worth compared to other places. They will lease a entire floor or an entire building they won't use. Splurge on take out, and build entire new conference room that are probably not being used for sure, now. Line their vendor friends pockets with menial work. Hire wives, or husbands of spouses. They literally create positions based on a task upper management doesn't want to complete. Either because they are slow, incapable, or just have soft a– hands.

Oxy is a good starting point for expirience but I would not make it my ultimate goal to be a Oxymoron lifer.

@1wxq+15tytdIQ - Nobody “chose” your profession for you, which means you endure that reality based on your personal “choices”. In other words, you can find another job or field of occupation if you want but you clearly don’t want to do that, you merely want recognition for your sacrifices and that’s not how the world works. Firefighters for example risk their lives every single day and they don’t beat their chests or demand recognition. They literally have to deny any sense of self preservation in order to do their job which is noble. You either proud of your sacrifices for society or you aren’t and you sound like the latter. 👍🏻

Try being in the medical field and working three shifts in a hospital. Some days you can’t go home no matter what. And hospitals don’t give a flying rats a– if you get sick and or die on the job from it. You all saw and heard all those medical people suffering working under COVID-19 conditions, Many had their salaries cut too, yet working 1-3 shifts, no OT pay, no additional compensation. So stop your whining. Be thankful for what you have!

I'm with not giving your heart and soul to oil patch. Office people in oil and gas are about as cut throat as they come. Most field guys are good guys that work and play hard. Anyway, spend time with your family....you don't want your tomb stone to have your name followed up by "he worked hard".

I've been on several calls where technical staff casually mention (or brag...) that they have been working extra hours and late into the night several nights a week. What is even worse, is the middle managers respond in a neutral to soft positive to their staff admitting to overworking.

The reason the tech staff say they are working so late? They have nothing else to do, so why not? It's sad (to say the least).

That is what I am doing. I will do my best to get the work done during the week, but there is no point in k–ling yourself on weeknights and weekends. If you give 100% during normal work times you have fulfilled your commitment to your employer. If they thought you were worth your salary before the cut then they should be happy to get 100% during the work week and not worry about keeping you busy after hours and weekends. I am glad I have a job, but I don't feel lucky to have a job. We lost many good workers over the last year, but we also have many top rated workers left, and Oxy knows that. They denied and limited the VSP to the ones they wanted to keep for sure, so they know they kept some of the best. Knowing that, the cards are really in the remaining employees favor. We all just need to realize we all bring a lot to the table, and don't get exploited. There are a lot of people at Oxy right now that management would hate to lose. Do your best, but don't make life any tougher than it has to be.

How very true. I sacrificed my children's time and my marriage for my oil company to get projects turned in on time and before time. They still cut me out anyways and got divorced. Please, DO NOT put work in front of family. If you say that you have to in order to keep your job, then it's time to find a new one.
