I heard there’s a hiring freeze at bp? Is this for real? Is my interview going to be cancelled?

Hiring freeze for Technology now as well as officially for p&o
@6xqm+1sLaIryA I read your comment and would like to express my sorrow and sympathy over the two colleagues that you lost. Also, sincere sympathy to you and your colleague who suffered breakdowns dud to work related stress. Strange thing is that the Lord Brownes, Tony Haywards and BL's of this world never seem to suffer similarly.
Would not surprise me at all. I worked at BP over 15 years I went through 8 rounds of redundancies in that time. I ended up leaving as I had a breakdown due to work related stress. I know of 1 other who did and 2 that hung themselves in my time there. Avoid.
As of today there are 320 jobs posted in BP Workday. 163 are in Hungary and India. 38 in UK and 35 in US. Murray is going big on building those global hubs. Next year after shares are released is going to be mass exodus and big headcount cuts.
@4wno+1sLaIryA It makes them feel important to hire people away from Big Tech
I once came across a past job posting from Digital that highlighted their hiring team included individuals from prominent software companies. While recruiting talent from such firms can be advantageous, it raises a question about the dedicated engineers who have been with BP for a long time. Aren't these engineers also intelligent and capable? Moreover, they possess a deeper understanding of the field. Why, then, boast about people with big software company experience on a BP job posting? Am I overthinking this? Additionally, hiring these software engineers tends to be more expensive.
Yes, the hiring freeze is in effect. Got confirmation on that this morning.
@uoj+1sLaIryA Agree with everything that you have said. The only salaries and bonuses that don't get cut are those of him and his partner.
@1vzn+1sLaIryA If it's any comfort to your relative, eight and a half months on, nobody has employed BL. Karma.
I still wouldn’t plan on it. We are cost cutting - what incentive do they have to be generous?
I had a family member who got let go this past October. Same package given. KD and BL said that in order to entice people to sign the Expression of Interest to leave and to get people near retirement to jump ship
They said in 2020 that that would be the most generous severance package and we should expect it to degrade significantly in subsequent layoffs…
As long as they don’t change the generous severance package.
So true, making a CFO the CEO was a mistake. He looks at a job well done as cutting jobs, salaries, bonuses, and benefits.
If this is bp’s reaction to $80 oil, just imagine what happens when it’s $30. This is what happens when a CFO becomes CEO.
Headcount isn’t our issue, incompetent management and operations is the problem
Depends on the business area but most new roles now need SVP approval. Existing signed off roles are still getting hired. Expenses are getting reviewed by some SVPs now. We’re acting like oil is back at $30 again. It’s going to get ugly.
Credit to Murray. He’s going to turn bp around. Love it or hate it but it’s happening.
Yikes. Even if I get SVP approval that’s probably not a situation I’d want to walk into. Thanks for the details
Your interview will not be cancelled if you and your job are based in India (TSI).
Yes it’s real. All new hires, including internal, need SVP approval
