We all know that large corporations have 20% of employees doing 80% of the work. GM is no exception.

Plenty of dead weight to cut. Enjoy the “shutdown “

I encourage all of you start collecting as much evidence as you can of GM's DEI efforts and as much information you have on EV safety concerns. Do it quietly and keep the data away from your company phone and laptop. Use a notepad with a pen if you can. Don't print anything - the company printers track what is printed and know who prints it. Take pictures with your personal phone.
Then, if you are laid off, flood news sites, social media and message boards with the information. Let the world know that GM is as woke as Disney and that their EV agenda is a huge fail. Forget the aware line or HR. Those are apparatuses that act like gate keepers for the corporation. The true change happens when the general public is made aware!!!
Don't you get tired of being used and pushed around?
A board of directors that actively uses all company profits to boost their own stock compensation while savaging it's own employees is corrupt and immoral. Acting against it's stakeholders - suppliers, union, plants, city businesses, employees, even the customers. It's anti-American and it should be called out, discouraged and subverted.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The 10% cut is going to happen any day now, so get busy.

I am told my mid-year review may be less than acceptable. Is this anything to worry about?

Starting today, Saudi Arabia will no longer use U.S. dollars for their oil exports. This means that the 50 year reign of the U.S. petrodollar is over. This also means the U.S. can't export it's inflation to the rest of the world.

We won't see an immediate fallout but our inflation will continuously escalate into infinity and that U.S. consumers will be crushed to the point where buying a new car or affording car insurance (or gasoline for that matter) will be almost laughable (if it wasn't so sad). Look at the national debt and a chart showing the dollar's buying power in the last 50 years and you'll know what to expect (it tapers straight down).
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/purchasing-power-of-the-u-s-dollar-over-time/

Just as we have seen restaurants and retail stores close across the country, we will also see new car dealers go under because as goods and services radically escalate in price, real assets like cars, homes, boats, rvs, etc. will tank hard. Very bad for the manufacturing industries. Could GM and Ford go bankrupt? Absolutely!!! It's not going to happen immediately, but we will see a lot of pain in the next few years. A slow roll into he-l.

The rest of the world is done putting up with American debt and sanctions. They have created trading pacts and moved away from the U.S. dollar. You might read this and think "this will not affect me" but you will soon find out. There's a reason your standard of living is so much higher than the rest of the world. Not for long.

It is pretty funny that there are some last minute Charlies showing up at the office after dodging RTO since Feb 2023.
The damage is done.
The lists are made and these people are not fooling anyone.
There are 3 weeks before shutdown.
The rumour is a 10% cut.
If any of the people who have been showing up get fired to spare the people not showing up, its going to cause an epic moral problem.

there does seem to be an increase in petty rules popping up with regular frequency as the midyear reviews approach. suddenly we're getting emails laying out vague yet demanding bullet points related to RTO. it feels like they are making a strong effort to have as many tripping points as possible so they will have "cause" to terminate you and since they have this fabricated cause, they are now in a position to hose you on any kind of separation package/unemployment insurance.

Not only that, GM wants to sc--w people on severance as well as unemployment.

If they cite that the employee was let go due to a performance review, the person wasn’t let go due to restructuring. The person can try to apply for unemployment, but, he or she will be denied. They can try to argue and have the case arbitrated, but the work law judge will probably side with GM.

true, they made not need a reason in an "at work" state, such as michigan but if they can drum up some nonsense bs reasons then they are in a better position to not offer you the full severance amount

They don't need cause to let someone go.

They can get rid of you for any reason or no reason as long as you're not in a protected class.

The only reason they'd want to claim cause is to deny you Unemployment.

Which is pretty low.

Friend and family Fanny said she's not worried about layoffs. By the way, she took the week off and her project is due so we are going to need you to fill in for her. The deadline is Friday. Make sure you get it all up to date for her so she can coast for 6 months after she gets back. #empathy #WOC #empowerment

the rumor is something will go down around that time. they seem to be loading the deck right now so they have "cause" if they decide you have to go.
