Unless Walmart is your only employment possibility on this earth, why would you move there?

Northwest Arkansas has consistently been voted one of the best places to live in the country. It’s beautiful. It has some of the lowest property tax rates in the country. It’s a growing area with lots of opportunities.
Living in Bentonville seems like it would be like living in the Truman show. Everyone watching your every move, no separation between work and life. Your everything revolves around Walmart. People are so fake and phony.
There’s way too many other places to work that are much lower on the “Su-k” scale. I’d never move there.

Bentonville is in a beautiful area, but the culture of the company and consequently the city is extremely toxic. I called it corporate in---t.
I think everyone’s experience with Bentonville is directly related to your level of happiness with your Walmart job. If you have a good manager that takes care of you, it’s tolerable. Personally, I hated Bentonville and was happy to get out of there. I had a good manager when I started, but over time and reorganizations and manager changed, things got worse and worse. Eventually, I had enough and was eager to get out.
I am a mainframe IT guy. I was layed off in the fall of 2006 from a company in Connecticut. I was contacted by a recruiter regarding a job at Walmart.
I went out and interviewed and accepted a job with Walmart.
I moved to Bentonville in early 2007. My wife and kids stayed in our house in the Northeast. I lived in BV for about 4 years, and would head home two or three times a year.
In 2011 I moved back North and worked remotely. I haven't with Walmart 17 years now and they have treated me very well.
Last week I was informed I'd need to move back to BV but being I was going to retire this year I declined.
Walmart has treated me extremely well and Bentonville is a very nice place to live.
Only if you had to to continue employment. The 97th great place to work knows you will quite than going there. yeah doug
I worked with Walmart as a customer in that area. Very pretty area with great golf courses and parks. I did get creeped out by the company though, like it was a cult. Posters of Sam Walton looming down at you that looked like Rasputin.
Maybe.. was just trying to add a little bit of positivity to a sh---y situation. It’s better than Oklahoma!
@1ujg - Of course NWA has some good schools. Walmart is there running the area like a mob boss. If WM wasn't there, the city would be just another no-name town in the south.
I actually really like northwest Arkansas. Great schools (some of the best in the state), awesome parks, outdoor Recc, and bike paths, much growth, decent weather. But this is coming from some one from Oklahoma so it may not be as appealing to others haha!
