Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The culture has gone downhill

Since Broadcom took over, the environment became even more toxic, even if I didn't think it was possible. I opted to stay but I'm now reconsidering that decision. I can't quit right now, but I'll be overjoyed if we get another voluntary round or if I'm put on the next list of layoffs.

"I can't speak to the culture in the rest of VMware, but in our EUC BU apathy reigns supreme."

This was everywhere across VMware. There were small pockets of smart and open minded people that I've collaborated with, but most seem happy to remain disengaged from any attempt to grow the business. However, I blame their managers for the low energy levels. To be fair, it's difficult to be excited after 15+ years working at the same company. If there's a common theme to our culture it was, and still is, boredom.

Focus on stock price and ignore the culture pls.
Market cap will soon beat FB and NVDA.
Your family will thank you for working at Broadcom.

".... environment became even more toxic,"
Example?
I experience the opposite. Many of us do. Have you seen the VCF roadmap and all the near term enablement?

The most amusing part about all this toxicity /culture change is that the previously so
obnoxiously loud representatives of values are adapting incredibly fast.

Those that can, do.
Those that cannot manage upwards, blow smoke and adapt quickly to whatever the newest master demands of them.

As long as original management remains, it's a winning plan for the poseurs.

Months and months of yapping and demonizing to suddenly shut up

Double standards successfully applied - just as usual from this crowd

Can OP define "culture"?

"Frankly, I can't believe the low amount of money they got for EUC."

Those of us who work in the EUC BU are not surprised. There was a brief surge of growth during the COVID pandemic, but that surge can't be repeated. Harvesting the installed base is the primary source of revenue, and raising prices should improve profit for KKR.

I can't speak to the culture in the rest of VMware, but in our EUC BU apathy reigns supreme. This culture has been a feature of the top-down focus on our 'safe' status quo.

You can be like the Dutch management: Don't give a fu-k about your team, your customers or your business, just cash your paycheck for as long as you are in employment and see whatever comes your way after.

Culture was already going downhill. Thanks to leadership after Pat left for causing that. Broadcom is just doing what they always did: shop and chop.
Frankly, I can't believe the low amount of money they got for EUC. It makes you think what was really worth the 64 billion dollars if EUC was only 4-ish. Who or what is the other 60? I honestly can't imagine that vRealize.. oh excuse me.. Aria, vSphere and Tanzu combined are worth all that. Maybe Uncle Tan has bitten off more than he can chew this time..? A pity that we have to be the ones to prove it.
