Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Just got notified by Management

Only 2 shops to stay open in the West. Management told us directly in lineup this morning, 1 shop in California and 1 in Oregon will remain open. ALL OTHER LOCATIONS will be SHUTDOWN. This is due to losing the biggest west coast customer.

If there's any legitimacy to these statements, then I sure hope Vena is ready! Closing down a very large portion of the west coast is going to get some very serious attention from the shareholders. I'm sure they'll be interested in knowing why the UP lost a big shipping contract. Losing customers doesn't add value to any company. Did you get that Vena?

I heard Stockton, Ca. is on the list for closure as well. Roseville will pick up the slack. Unless all traffic heads to West Colton. Get rid of the North Ca. district. Making moves, makes sense since the loss of business and less carload.

Unfortunately, this is probably the truth.

Los Angeles got the letter also. Funny part is that we just had layoffs in January. So I guess we are having another layoff. We have two shops so I guess bye bye to one of them.

We've got the letter in North Platte, I don't think it indicates shop closures but definitely layoffs coming. Same thing happened in 2020

If there's a letter still laying on the table about vacation pay if you retire or quit, just take a picture of it and post it. That will prove it's legit.

If your shop is getting this letter then your shop is about to close. Plain and simple. They did this in 2019/2020 right before they shutdown some shops. It’s a way for them not to pay you a severance because you left before the layoff. So don’t take it and just Waite for the Axe. In 2020, I got 4 months of pay and 4 months of medical due to a mass layoff.

I read that letter. In fact, it's still on the table in the lunch room.

@1trz again, you're so full of phuuuucking shiiit! No one is receiving letters to ask them if they want to cash out there vacation so they would quit! I've got 20 years at my service unit and I've never heard of su-k nonsense ! When the U P closed a shop near my yard they did offer 5 weeks vac and a chunk of money! Those days are gone! So quit spreading buulllshiiit

@1trz-It’s not a fairytale. UP put out a letter offering to pay people all of their 2024 vacation and 2025 vacation owed to you, depending on how many weeks you qualify for, to either retire or quit.

In Mechanical Locomotive in California, we have:

Roseville
West Colton
Commerce
Dolores

It makes sense to keep one shop or running through shop. Two of those shops are heavy repair which in reality you don’t need because you have North Platte and North Little Rock that do the same work. The other two shops are run through shops that work on trains only. Any small shop can run trains. West Colton sits in between Roseville and LA so it makes sense to keep West Colton.

I don’t know how many shops does Oregon have besides Hinkle. Anyone care to let us know how many shops in Oregon and what they do?
