Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

What’s left to manufacture in Everett

Full Transparency, I do not work for Boeing.
If Boeing moves 787 to SC, what’s left to manufacture in Everett.
I am a resident of Everett and concerned about the financial impact.

I recently left Boeing for Northrop, and found out that the rumors about less pay are categorically false. It wasn't something I wanted to do at first, but my only other option to stay employed at Boeing was to relocate, as my job code was being greatly reduced and they no longer needed me. Since I was going to have to relocate regardless of staying at Boeing (no other game in town), I applied with Lockheed and Northrop. Within two days, Northrop interviewed me and shortly thereafter, offered me slightly more money AND provided a generous relocation package! But the most important part for me, is that the culture at Northrop is so much more positive than anything I had ever seen in my nearly 20 years with the Boeing Company. Do I have regrets about Boeing? Absolutely not! They provided me the training, education and skillset I needed to move on. But the one thing I can honestly say is the culture of union vs company has deterred Boeing from being a better place to work. Best of luck to all of you!

I left Boeing for Google. Did not get fired or laid off, just left. I don't appreciate being categorized as "jealous" or "bitter" whenever I decide to check out this website. I would prefer "curious". Peace out and stay safe out there.

I do my job diligently and follow all safety and quality rules. I can’t be responsible for leadership mistakes or anyone else’s who doesn’t do the same. Plus overall company’s culture is still very safety-oriented.

My conscience is clear and there is no guilt in taking well deserved money.

@1hub+16xu3FhN you are correct, the pay and benefits are not as good, but you just made my point for me.

Many people here say Boeing is willing to sacrifice everything for money. You just told me that it does not matter how bad Boeing is, what they do, how many planes crash, how much stick they buy back, how they keep eroding benefits...none of that matters because you are just like the leadership of the company....

Its all about the money for you. No more complaints about what Boeing does or doesn't do. You are about the cash, the BoD is about the cash. Two peas in a pod you are. But you are not alone. There are many like you.

If you were better than the leadership of the company you would be willing to sacrifice a few thousand dollars or a couple percentage points in your 401k just to get away. But you don't.

I admit Boeing pretty much spoon feeds its employees. That’s why it’s so hard to find another place just like this. Where else can I be getting gift cards just for walking 13,000 steps a day during summer? Or rewarded just for showing up to work on time?

Last time I’ve looked into few of those places on the list none of them had wages and benefits quite as good as Boeing‘s. Maybe only Airbus was very close.

Hmmm, can't find another job in aviation or can't find another job in Seattle.

Let's go through some aviation companies shall we?

Spirit
Gulfstream
Learjet
Textron
Piper
Embrear
Airbus
Cirrus
Boom
Airion
Northrop Grumman
Lockheed Martin

There are more, but you get the point. I did not even mention all the MROs, FBOs, completion centers, and parts manufacturers.

Yes, they are still hiring the right people. Maybe your not the right people. Now, there are defense companies as well like Raytheon.

Give it a rest. You know you have a good thing, you don't have to do any work and you get paid much more than most.

Well, to answer your question about the difference between current and ex employees, it’s pretty simple - latter ones should not be here, period, since they are no longer part of Boeing. And this section of the website is dedicated to the company and its layoff situation. It’s like if UK politicians would be able to vote in US elections or agitate US citizens on who they should vote for.

Ex employees are not part of the crew and it’s unethical for them to spread or support rumours here. Current employees, no matter how evil or lazy they are, are still the integral part of the company and have full moral right to participate in lay-off related discussions.

The only jealousy I see here is coming from disgruntled ex Boeing employees, or plain trolls as it seems sometimes.

As for finding another employment - it’s not as easy as you might think it is. There aren’t many options like Boeing, especially in aviation, especially now during Covid. It would be insane to quit now or wish for Boeing to collapse (if you’re an active employee).

I did not know we had a genuine Dr. Of Psychology on here.

So, in your expert medical opinion. What is your diagnosis of people who go online anonymously, post negative articles about their employer, call their employer murderers and miscreants, yet they still work for said company and take the ill gotten money that came from their bad acts in their paycheck. And when some comes on here whether fired or voluntary quit, they are harranged for the crime of no longer working for a company that many here feel is worse than the devil.

What is your expert opinion on that?

My layman's opinion is jealously. The complainers here are jealous that they have no skills and are incapable of getting job somewhere else. Or, they don't have the balls to quit and find another job.

But I am very interested in hearing your degreed psychological opinion.

I have my bets on regrets and crab mentality. Probably most of the ex employees here were canned for something stupid and now just want to see the whole company to go down with them.

It’s basic human psychology.

@1hkw+16xu3FhN I don't think it is remose or regret.

I think with all rhe b–ching and bad mouthing of Boeing on this site, I think they come back to GLOAT that they got out.

Based on the pissy responses to the ex-Boeing folks that come here, I'd say the gloating is warranted

Did you quit or got fired?

Why do ex employees visit this website?

Remorse? Regret?

I'm not a current Boeing employee either, but I used to be one. If Boeing were to decide to vacate a facility, I would imagine it would be Renton, not Everett.

There is still the 777, 777X. 767, KC-46, and a few more 747 produced in Everett.

Boeing will not manufacture anything in Everett or the state of Washington anymore. It's a bankrupt company that will only be kept alive by the federal government because the DOD still needs fighter planes.

I wouldn't worry about Everett's finances. Most of the housing stock will be purchased by Amazon and Microsoft employees fleeing the $800K+ median home price in Seattle and the eastside.
