Thread regarding Optum layoffs

UHG/OPTUM are predatory, unethical companies

UHG/OPTUM are predatory companies. Get out if an when you can.

They buy out and destroy competition. They buy out to acquire customers from the business they acquire and then destroy them and layoff people.

Unfortunately, they can't be stopped. They ruined healthcare, They ruin peoples lives. They destroy the healthcare system. They commit corporate espionage of competitors. The US government officials likely all have a financial interest in the company through stocks so it is in their best interest to allow them to continue to inflate their stock price for shareholder value.

The rich get richer via their stock and the rest of us become poorer and sicker because they continue to deny much needed care of their insureds. They engage is fear tactics and mentally deplete and stress employees with their psychological games. Many have been victims of the incident which they caused by not hardening infrastructure to "save" money. It is costing them big time but they won't suffer. They C suite will receive their millions of dollars in compensation despite the debacle. They will laugh all the way to the bank as they artificially inflate the stock price by cutting costs, laying off hundreds if not thousands of employees, discontinuing software and other contracts, and continuing to increase the price of health insurance along with health insurance deductibles. Only the employees and insureds will suffer.

They boast about always having at least 100,000 open positions at any given time. Clearly that is not normal; it's a churn but, well, that's what they do, they lay off, then rehire cheaper AND OFFSHORE US jobs. They acquire companies, attempt to convert their customers to UHG/Optum, and destroy the acquired company to eliminate competition.

Despite the company repeatedly earning record profits year after year, UHG/Optum does NOT compensate/reward their employees. The people who are long term employees just move the sand, they mock the leadership, and just move on and do what they want. Most don't even know what they are doing. They spend millions on consultants and attorneys daily. But it just doesn't matter, it's all the cost of doing business, they will just layoff, close offices/business to reduce expenses.

For the company, it's a win win - they run all the way to the bank.

So for all of you still there, just do what you can, don't make yourself sick, take care of yourself and your families BUT get out and run as fast as you can and never look back. Take it from experience, you will be very glad you did.

@1tky+1tMFmjex - - You are spot on but I'd like to add, the company needs to be exposed for their predatory and unprofessional practices"

  • psychological games
  • repeated denial of coverage for sick patients
  • unethical practices
  • acquisition of companies with the goal of poaching their customers and then putting the acquired company out of business just to remove them from the market because they were their competition
  • layoffs are the norm not the exception _ purposefully avoiding WARN notices
  • fabricating responses to inquiries regardless of the sender
  • bullying of employees
  • artificial increases in the stock price by closing segments of the business and laying off.
  • flying under the radar and going after PRIVATE Companies rather than PUBLIC so the government doesn't have involvement

just to name a few as the pathetic list goes on and on

“ When I can get my 100% mandatory seizure medication cheaper on a GoodRx card than I can using my own health insurance”

To clarify…GENERIC lamotrigine that has been out of patent forever now. That has the manufacturing outsourced to developing countries in SE Asia…god only knows what quality controls are in place at the manufacturing plants there. Reality 101.”

Clarifying my clarification…I found out I had a seizure disorder a little over 10 years ago because I woke up in the back of an ambulance having crashed my car after crossing over 2 lanes of oncoming traffic and crashing into a retaining wall.

Seizure medication is what allows me the ability to participate in society, including driving a car after spending a year under driving restrictions. I’ve been good so far, 10 years seizure-free now.

But, let me ask you THIS…how comfortable are you with someone like me driving around knowing that some QA person in India decided they wanted to meet some arbitrary quota one day and saying fu-k it! Pass pass pass quality control, TGIF!

Dead serious. You all should write your reps.

Left the company a few months ago. Was. Given three different options for health coverage with my new company. UHC was one. It was the shittiest plan of the three. I had to pass on their fabulous coverage based on my experience with Surest/Bind during my employment. When I can get my 100% mandatory seizure medication cheaper on a GoodRx card than I can using my own health insurance…well, that should tell you something. CostPlus for the win! Su-k it Sir Robin!

Yeah everyone needs to write and call their congress rep and senate

There needs to be better laws on acquirement of health care companies like to loss of employment for 5 years if overall clients stay the same, limits on profit

Strict rules on c suite compensation that limit stock and employee retention matters
