Those who have stayed with Qualcomm for 8-10 years or more may lack the adaptability or skills needed to find new opportunities, as they've been doing the same tasks repeatedly. As a result, they have become less productive, and Qualcomm is essentially paying them without getting much in return. It might be time to consider letting them go. They are very lazy, out of latest mindset needed to succeed. Qcom should hire new fresh graduates.

@2lji, your observation about mst, esg and ce is spot on. Title inflation and tribes.
@2lji - totally agree about headcount growth in pdm and other non-engineering roles. I also think there is title inflation in non-engg. Departments full of senior directors and vps. IP department is one of those - everyone or almost all principal and above.
@1swx+1u9q1Zo6: At least SW engineers with 10+ years experience make an effort to keep their skillsets updated. What about the MST group? What about the ESG group? What about CE group? The leadership is a bunch of senior directors and directors who are just political and built tribal village groups.
Also, I hope someone is looking at PdM. They added so much headcount, now, no significant product to push, no significant features to push, ecosystem is stalled, yet, they don't face any impact! No network operator has added any significant new features. The PdM could have recycled their old spreadsheet from 2022 and customer would not have noted any difference - coz anyway, the features will be deprecated.
I work with a bunch of people who have been here 10-20 years, and they are some of the smartest, most adaptable people around. They often know languages like nobody I’ve seen, can code circles around everyone under 30, have worked on hundreds of different projects, are a wealth of knowledge and seemingly pick up new skills with ease.
I’m not saying all 10-20+ year engineers are like this; the ones that are 100% management typically have atrophied skills, but I’d take a bunch of these guys on my team over a bunch of 23 year old whiners any day.
Correction: those of us* who are impacted, I pray the grass is greener 🙏
Hoping for others to get canned to save your own behind makes yourself toxic. Best of luck to everyone and for those who are impacted, I pray the grass is greener for you 🙏
Funny thing is, a lot of the old timers that have been here that long is because of their ability to adapt to change. I wouldn’t put them all in the same boat…
Can’t agree more
Quit whining. Life is too short. Don't like Q? Move elsewhere. Lots of places are hiring in SD though with a lower salary. Don't like your boss? Move to a different team. At the end of the day, the time to you spend with family and friends and the precious moments you create are what matters.
Don't underestimate some old timers' political skills. It counts more in most companies than technical skills.
I pray for this company to bankrupt. Can't deal with the layoff news every now and then. Especially if you are sitting in Scl. In every layoff season scl is the target. Guess they have us to fire in every season
Remember that the ones who are making the boot lists are also 10+ year directors... Their own names won't be on those lists. The ones getting booted are usually the ones who do their work head buried down and don't mingle with the bosses.
If you have been at Q for 10 or less years get ready for the layoff toilet you need to be recycled to save the 20 25 30 year veterans that deserve to perpetuate their careers off your back. Just bend over and smile 😃
noobs do not know anything
The old timers are the only reason QIPL hasn't driven this company directly to the ground. The amount of times I see the US old timers save the A$$ of QIPL engineers is insane.
A few posters here probably should have checked for "stupid mistakes" before posting.
We old dog employees are doing the gate keeping job to make sure there is no stupid mistake made on the project. Remember we are in semiconductor business. Rennetless decision is the receipt for failure.
100% agree
10% agree, well written.
